Jarvis emailed me today they will be doing another run of 597 Match barrels and are taking orders. Barrels available in 16 1/2” an 18”, with or without threading. I placed my order for an 18” unthreaded barrel. I have been in the waiting list for close to a year.

Chris597,
Love your rifles. Unfortunately here in NY I can’t have a thumbhole stock with a semiauto that has a detachable mag. Now I am thinking of getting a second Jarvis barrel in 16 1/2” instead of the 18” I already have on order. What length are barrels do you have? Any big difference between the 16 1/2 and 18”?
Thanks, Ken

Ken I have both 16 and 18’s. Not a lot of difference that I can tell. I know when I bought the Kidd Supergrade I was told that Tony Kidd prefers the 18-20 for accuracy. Almost everyone else says it makes no difference. I’d
LIke to have a 16.5“ that’s threaded. I‘d love to have a couple of them at some point soon.

I checked out an older Boyd’s laminated stock I picked up a few years ago, new still in the box. The barrel channel looks like it isn’t wide enough for the Jarvis barrel. I can use it for a SS 597 I have currently in a plastic stock. I guess I will need 2 stocks from Boyd’s. Looks like I have a very limited choice of stocks, most likely the pro varmint stock.

I think what ever you get you’ll have to sand the barrel channel out. The Boyd’s 597s stocks are all set for .870 stock heavy barrels. You’ve got to sand for .920. Their 10/22 stocks they cut to .920, that option isn’t available on the 597’s. Post a pic when you get it together. atsome point try bedding the action!

btw there are a ton on eBay made by revolution.

I live in NY, if you have a semiauto with detachable mag, you cannot have a threaded barrel or pistol grip or thumbhole stock. That leaves me with few option. That‘s why I would go with the Boyd’s pro varmint stock unless I can find another stock. I searched several times, almost all of the 597 stocks were thumbhole stocks.

The at-one stock and Agility comes in a non thumb hole version, I really like these

I'm thinking about ordering a 16.5” threaded barrel. I inquired about the 20” they had listed a while back and he responded no longer offered.

edited: I did order the 16.5 threaded barrel, this may be the last opportunity to order one, you never know.

I ordered 2 18” unthreaded barrels, about a week apart. Got an email last night the first order is complete and the barrel should be here Friday. I expect the second barrel will ship in a day or 2. Was going to build a rifle for and 1 for the wife, now she said it is too heavy. Not sure I want 2 for myself. Hmmmm.

I placed my order with Boyd’s today for a Pro Varmint stock in Nutmeg. I have a new old stock Boyd’s for a 597 I will use for a stainless 597 I picked up last year. I will hold off on using the second Jarvis barrel until I see how the 1st one turns out.

My Boyds order arrived yesterday, way ahead of the expected delivery date. I have been reading up on best ways to open up the barrel channel to accept the .920 barrel. I also included an extra set of front and rear screw inserts for the action screws as recommended by Boyd’s. I will finally put my stainless 597 into a new old stock laminated 597 stock I grabbed off eBay.
