Jard trigger install

Received my JARD trigger today, 3-6 oz model. I also ordered the two other springs, will probably never use but I have them. Installation was same as my two Timney triggers, easy. This time getting the little c clip off was the hard part, went on easy. Probably less than 15 minutes, but first time rifle out of stock and spent a little time looking it over and smoothing the serial number on the bolt.
Found the safety too hard to move forward to off. But at 81 my fingers don't have a lot of strength. But maybe the only time I use the safety as I only shoot at range and load only when I shoot. Tried twice to check pull weight with my Wheeler Professional Digital Pull gauge. Both times a fraction over 5 oz. Could be a bit less as can read high if not steady. Doesn't seem any higher than my Jewel triggers that are 1.5 oz.
I'm thinking that instead of holding in death grip as many heavier triggers in lighter sporter rifles, I might try free recoil like with a true bench gun. This is with my new MTR.
Hope to try it tomorrow or Monday.

Got to the indoor range today. Fired 65 rounds. JARD trigger was flawless. The whole rig was. Have 120 rounds through my 457 MTR now and no feeding or ejecting problems.
Noticed before going to the range that over travel doesn't seem set from the factory as with the Timney. Seems simple enough to adjust but not an issue benchrest with it at 5 oz (factory).
Tried shooting a couple of groups free recoil to eliminate variations in my grip. Only touching the rear bag and the trigger. Groups were small and round but not quite as small as my best groups using the death grip.
If I decide to try this some more I might try lightning the trigger to 3 oz. I was using a bipod, only option at indoor range. Not a bad morning. MTR shot best at 20, 23 and 24 ip on action screws. Haven't measured yet but 23 looks to be a hair better. 23 is what I found best with my other MTR also. Coincidence?
Last time and again to day my best groups were on the left side of the target. Kinda spooky. Thinking maybe as I change torque setting, readjust bag, my right hand gets a bit of rest from the death grip and I shoot better on the first couple of groups and then fatigue sets in. Don't know. Gives a vote towards the free recoil.
Don't think I can learn anymore until I can get to the outdoor range at 50 yards. Only shot RWS Special match today. At some point need to test other ammo's. Would like to try Lapua Center-x but haven't seen any for sale in 2 years.

I find the trick with bench small groups is consistent process. Everything identical. The death grip is workable for me if I am consistent. I use it a bit on my air rifle. On my MTR the more free recoil approach is better IF I am perfect with trigger pull. Slight pressure differences in any way makes a difference for me.

If I am consistent I get little difference off a bag, rest or bipod for a the front.

I have a 457 lux on order, in .22 Mag, should be here next week sometime. I think I will try it before doing any trigger work. I will most likely end up with one of the 3-6 Jard triggers. I have been shooting some precision airguns, a 40 year old Feinwerkbau 300 s target rifle, with a pull at about 2 oz, and a couple of IZH 46m single stroke pneumatic pistols with similar pulls.

Hi guys, I know this is and older thread, but thought I would pipe in as I just installed my Jard 3 to 6. Jard said it came pre-adjusted but it was pulling only 1.1 to 1.5 on my Wheeler gauge. Following the instructions, I reset sear engagement and overtravel (still feels like too much overtravel) then cranked on trigger pull screw ending at 3.5 which feels much safer to me. I bounced the butt and slammed the bolt many times so pretty sure it is good to go. Hoping that this and new Lilja 1" by24" barrel brings the magic. On a side note, I also did the firing pin profile mod and polished the sear using jeweler Rouge.

To the OP I did see in the Jard instructions that there is an adjustment for the safety if it is being difficult.

I guess I am confused as to this overall concern of overtravel. Especially on a precision rimfire rifle setup.
I totally understand the application with shooting pistols like within USPSA and others since trigger overtravel equates
to added time overall.
But why do so many focus on this when shooting rifles? Yes mine does has a tad of overtravel but it does not affect
my overall end result on target. In my eyes, Creep before the execution I feel is more important than what happens
after the execution.
I could be wrong but once the sear drops and the primer ignites the bullet is likely already exited
the barrel before the overtravel has been hit?? I focus more on the trigger pull and execution more so
than how far the trigger goes back.
I suppose if I have some major overtravel (for example 1/8 inch) then yes I would chase that rabbit hole, but in my case
I might...might have at most a tad less than a 1/16th.
Where my overtravel is set now is on the cusp of reset. If I turn the screw say 1/4 of a revolution then
I do not get reset so I have accepted (I guess) what overtravel I have.
I guess maybe I am built different, but my overall scores jumped dramatically once I popped my Jard in.
Right now with the 3-6 ounce spring I see a constant repeatable 3.5 oz's as measured from my digital Wheeler.
I was told early on, regardless of the trigger, focus everything on the trigger pull and less on where you hit.
Getting the pull consistent gets the groups tighter resulting in better hits.

I don’t consider it a concern at all . I’m just an ocd type and tend to nit pic the crap out of stuff that likely makes no difference whatsoever . I don’t even notice it when I’m shooting it . I think the Jard is the best thing going for the 457 .

Having been Shooting Long Range Center Fire for over 50 years . I have had many Trigger at three times the cost of Jard 457 Units . I find them the Bang for the Buck .
Over-travel ??? In my old days of Rapid Fire with 2 stage Triggers it was a plus to re set the sheer ?
To day I never notice it even in my -$375 dollar Triggers .
$179 in to days dollars! Deal

I took my pro varmint that I installed the jard in this week to my wife’s uncles this morning and the trigger is insane shot as consistent as I have ever shot with this gun and that’s saying something ! He shot several groups with it and by the time I got home he was calling wanting me to order him one ! 👍

I was doing some lot testing at 50 yards, 5mph wind, Jard and Lilja, bag and Harris bipod

. These are all 5 shot groups. Discovered that when I "drove" the gun (very positive pressure on butt) I saw some amazing groups. If I relaxed at a, groups opened up. Even Wolf Match Target shined when I practiced this. I need to see if free recoil works on a good front rest
