for your various .22lr semi-auto and revolver rifle/pistols

would it be any other than CCI? eta: oof, Stinger is 500$ .10rd... Is Blazer something to consider? better than thunderbolts or golden bullets?

help me pick a manufacturer/brand.

what's a good quality bulk buy purchase these days? I see some 5k batches around.

It's time for me to stock up on .22lr I think. Pricing is "decent" enough isn't it?

I had the hots to buy a rifle this weekend but I've decided to bite the bullet and get my .22 inventory back into the green.

so if you were to go buy 10k or more for an all around high quality plinking round what would it be?

thanks for any input fellas!

thank you sir,,, yep...that's where I'll most likely spend my money.

last stuff I bought was RWS target there.

ya know...using my calico as a benchmark... CCI shoots consistently... anything cheaper I'll get some misfires...

My boy is getting interested in shooting so it's time to make it rain :)

I'm hoping someone will say: This batch in the bucket or by the brick...this is what you want. :)

Hard to recommend what to buy if it's your rifle. What shoots best in our rifles may not shoot well in yours. And 20K rounds is a lot of ammo to buy to find out your rifle doesn't like it.... If it were me, I would buy CCI Standard or SK Standard plus,,,,

thanks Bob!

yeppir, it will be for all my pistol / rifles... so a bulk/quality buy is what I'm looking for. And yes, 20k was a fantasy...especially in the 10 cents a round area...

it looks like 10cents a round SK stuff is getting good reviews for accuracy...

that price point could be the one to look at harder.

None of the hyper velocity rounds are accurate and are costly. Work great if you are shooting rodents at 25 yards.
I have shot a lot of Blazer and it is decent ammo if you want a 40 grain HV solid. I had 12K on hand when the ammo shortage hit and they are all gone. I have also shot a lot of Federal 36 grain HP bulk and the Blazer is more consistent. I have been shooting some Winchester M22 40 grain lately and it is also doing better than the Federal Bulk. The Minimag are the benchmark in HV. The worst I have ever had was Remington Golden Bullets. Would not even run in a bolt action. I had to use them up in a revolver and a single shot.
SV has been more accurate in my guns. Aguila has been good but CCI is better at 2X the cost. Trouble is finding HP in SV. I have been considering getting a Neil Waltz die set ($150) and making my own HP from solids. I can get subsonic HP but those are usually double the price.
Right now for cheap Blazer @ .03 and Aguila SV @ .04 look to be the best buys.

My single shots, revolvers and bolt, slide and lever guns will eat about anything; my auto loaders can be particular....and I have better luck overall in function on them with the flash-plated ammo. That works well enough for general funnin, plinkin, hunting and junk steel thwackin in any of them; that aint target though. The target guns need better stuff.
Thunderbolts- no
Win. anything-no
Goldens-eh, maybe
Fed AutoMatch- has been pretty good, not great, in a number of mine
Fed bulk whatever they call it from Walmart- probably not
CCI MiniMags- yep
Blazers- yep
Stingers- never used 'em
Aguila SE Std Vel- has been good to me, Ive got an old stash lot for special occassions
Eley- even the cheaper end has treated me pretty well, my stash of Sport included.
RWS Target Rifle- Got some last fall, doing pretty well, I think a smidge better than the Eley Sport.
If you havent seen it look at Jaia's thread on '50 at 200'.
Fwiw, I hate buying junk and junk ammo makes junk groups. But at 25yds even junk ammo can look like it shoots pretty tight. And that is what I would give my g-sons to run through at 25 or me blast with at a run & gun. At 50 it is starting to come undone and at 100 it is only good for big targets. If you want dime size groups or under at 50 it wont happen, except for pure luck, with junk/discount/bulk ammo.

I have settled on the Eley bulk that CMP sells. It shoots well in everything I have tried it in, a little better than CCI SV in most and is 100% reliable (so far, 20,000 rounds in). It is a little higher than Target Sports CCI @$.07/round. The CMP allotment of 10,000 rounds per year is just about right for the shooting I do. If I see I am running short at the end of the year, I supplement with CCI SV for practice.

CCI SV or the CMP bulk pack is in the sweet spot of price/performance. I shoot offhand for the most part so pretty good is good enough at my level of skill.

The way I did it was to buy ammo on sale that is a few steps above thunderturd, golden stuff. I did a 10k, then whatever firearms didn't like that I would buy a brick or so of better stuff just for them guys.
Most my stuff ate up everything I had, Wildcats and other odd stuff. I never did buy into the target grade ammo stuff, just never had the cause to, Ijust plink mostly. I have been getting the itch to really see what my match stuff can do as I never shot any of them yet but starting to do that now. So a couple boxes won't break the bank. I will never enter any comps so no big deal to stock up on one lot or another. I do like to make it rain with my calicos though! :gun4:

I found CCI Blazers on sale for $.02 a round! Yep, got my 10K fast and cheap. I will always have something that can shoot them at that price! Just my thoughts.

As for me, and my rifles, the CCI Blazers and, believe it or not, Aguila SE-HV would be my choices. Both are about the same price, and both shoot well in my seven good .22LR rifles. I didn't buy 20K, though, only 15K............All told, I've bought nearly 18K of Aguila, and so far, have had zero FTFs or other issues, and accuracy is plenty good enough for plinking and "fun-shootin'".

LOL. You certainly hold a grudge, Al. :) The Federal AM must have been a bad lot. Works fine for me. Winchester? Gaah!

Believe it or not, Remington Subsonic are one holers for me (even when I fired more than once). Qualified for 100 yard squirrel challenge with that.

All depends on the rifle. Blazer have been remarkably good for the price, but CCI SV is excellent, too.

I bought a brick over 20 yrs ago for my bud's boys to learn on and buried over 9 boxes in a hole on the hunting property. 4 yrs ago I gave it another chance and gave most of 2 boxes to a used car salesman. FedAM, hack tooey!

CCI SV for good accuracy, Blazers for less money and decent accuracy...Fed blue or red box is reliable, but accuracy suffers compared to LRN.

**Edit add: I have used lots of other ammo; Mini Mags are overrated IMHO, they are reliable, but they are HV, less accurate than Blazers for me. Aguila is ok, but dirty. Thunderbolts suck.

I have a Ruger 10/22 and a Ruger Mark III Target and CCI Blazer ammo is the most accurate and 100% reliable in my two guns. CCI Standard Velocity is a close second. It seems that anything by CCI is 100% reliable in my two guns.

I already have about 20K of Federal Value Pack. I wouldn't have that much if I didn't like it. Both the 550 round Walmart red package, and 525 blue pack. I get a FTF rate of 4-5 rounds per box, and it's reasonably accurate for plinking. The best deal for my needs. Most of mine is 4-8 years old, so it may be better than newer production that gets some criticism.

CCI is better, but not enough better for the cost. I do have 2K rounds of it, half HP and half RN.

I would go with the Blazer for low cost reliable ammunition. Should have bought some while the rebate was on but that's over. It works so well in all my stuff that I'm sitting on 50K now. The last Auto Match I had was so bad that they had me send 2 cases back to them.

Just for grins I tried a 500 round box of Thunderturds in my Steel Challenge rifle. I figured, how bad could it be if it goes bang since I'm just shooting large steel plates. I had no idea how bad this stuff is these days. The more I shot the worse I got. Finally I decided it must be the gun a tried to slow fire a few accurate shots and found that it would not hit a 12" plate at 10 yards. The barrel was so leaded up I couldn't get a .17 rod without a brush down the bore. I spent 5 solid hours working on the barrel to get it clear of lead. This was no cheap barrel either, it's a Volquartsen carbon fiber. I ran 1k through it today using Aguila and Blazer and it's back to great accuracy and no leading. DO NOT buy Thunderbolts.

I've tried most of the available rimfire at 200 yards.
Based on the results, for hunting small game or plinking with 22lr,
I'd purchase CCI Blazer in the 50 cartridges per box style.
At distances less than 50 yards it will do the job
and carry enough energy to cycle most semiautos consistently.

For distances beyond 50 yards I'd be using CCI 17 hmr 17 grain TNT.
At 20 cents a round it produces better results than the similarly priced 22lr.
