Great ideas shared by all!
Comment to GMD1950: He demonstrates that “greed” takes different forms; he sold the Colt Officers’ Model Match for “greed”, I would have greedily held onto it.
I have a beautiful S&W Model 17-2 6” that is a dream to shoot.
But, like someone mentioned I would love to BUY a H&R Model 999 Sportsman in preferably 4” or 6” if pressed.
I am still in search of a S&W Model 34 up to -2 with 3” or 4” barrel.
I keep getting back to the H&R though, I a Top Break is ideal for all around usefulness.
Merry Christmas to all!
John

This particular 4" 63 had unusually tight lock up, so I installed a length of Hart barrel I had left over from a long-forgotten project and created the perfect .22 revolver for me. With a lot of R-50, it shoots under 1/2" at 25 yards, although holding that is a real challenge for me, requiring a bull of just the right dimensions. Even with the scope, it weighs less than a 617. I plan to make a front sight that will fit into the front ring dovetail (it's machined for the Talley rimfire rings). I also made an 3" octagon barrel for this revolver, but it didn't have that perfect "hang" of the 4" heavy, so now it is orphaned.

So last year around the holidays I impulse purchased a Heritage .22 as my first rimfire revolver. It is so much fun shooting it cause it’s hefty for a rimfire revolver. Louder than I would’ve expected though; even shooting subs. I need to find some CB shorts and try them out.

Yea, I'm retired too. I've actually been selling off some of my "collection" to add other/new items. Otherwise, I'd be hurting a bit as well. I've always been a devout S&W guy when it came to revolvers. Still, A shiny 4" GP-100 in 357 caught my eye early last year and I figured I'd give it a try. Turned out, I was pretty impressed with build quality and features as compared to the current SW 686 line. Ruger had clearly stepped up their game with the GP series. In the end, I liked it enough that I picked up a 6" and 5" as well. ( All 357) All 3 revolvers slicked up super nice ( and this is coming from a guy that used to collect S&W only).
I had eyeballed the GP100-22 for a while after but there seemed to be none around . I eventually did see one a LGS at $770 but I thought about it a day and it was gone when I went back. I was in no rush as I had a nice pair of SW 617's to shoot but I knew I wanted one. I ended up posting a WTB add for Gp100-22 on a state wide shooting forum and waited. After a few months, I got contacted from a guy that had a minty one complete with the Speed Beez loader set shown above . He wanted $600 for all of it and I thought that was very fair. As i said above, it would be a close race to pick a favorite in my rimfire revolver line-up but this one is near the top. The 5.5", 1/2 lugged barrel gives (IMO) a perfect blend of extended sight radius and outstanding balance without being nose heavy (like my 6", 617 was).

Oh yea, the Lipsey's 5", 44 is real nice! I'm trying not to add new calibers but that one could put me over the edge!

BTW, here is my "Unicorn" 5" GP100. The 5" is somewhat rare in itself but I found this one unfired last year and the serial number actually ends in "357" :giggle:

Tacoma, can you share the details on this revolver? I really find the finish attractive and those grips are awesome. I just like the overall look.

Thank You, I'm happy to tell you what I can. The 5" GP100's are no longer in production ( last I checked). In fact, the only 5" GP100's I'm aware of were Davidsons Distributor Exclusives made in special runs by Ruger for that distributor. ( I believe they made several runs. Some in a SS model as well.) I know there was an early run back around 2010/2011 or so. Mine was built in 2016 according to the serial number. I believe they were sold pretty regularly by Davidsons in between that time too. Apparently, the 5" flavor was very popular and sold well. I bought this one ( believed unfired) last year from a small shop in ME (for $600 as I recall). the gun was mint, priced right and the " 357" serial number was icing on the cake) I have a 4" and 6" Gp100 as well but the 5" is Goldielocks right in my opinion. I changed out teh front sight to a fiber Optic (which takes 5 seconds on a GP) , upgraded the grips and swapped out the trigger return spring. It's a joy to own and shoot now.
As for the grips, the rubber grip bases are factory Ruger. Nothing special. They are functional and comfortable so I leave them on. The inserts shown ( with Ruger Logo's) are aftermarket made by Altamont Grips. I also have inserts made by CHIG as well. They just pop in and out and can be changed to suit the will of the day. It makes for a nice system that dresses up the gun nicely.. As an example, here are a set of Altamont Bonded Ivory panels on my GP100-22.

I like the look of the octagon, very different. Great workmanship too!

Teddy,

It looks like you are doing your own very nice custom work, so I'm wondering how that "Smith & Wesson" marking got onto the side of the octagon barrel. It looks like straight out of the factory, but obviously it's not.
