Gents,

This is my first-ever rifle, bought when I was 37! It is an H001L, 16" barrel, with a big loop lever:

I wanted to be "Lucas McCain", and this Henry was the inexpensive way to get a foot into the door. I sold an early-WWII Walther PP to pay for it, some range time, some ammo, a gun case, some groceries, and some gasoline. :D

Here is a picture with its lever almost closed:

My Henry now wears a metal front sight from an Ithaca 72. I do not have good pictures of the sight, though. That Henry has taught me so much about rifles, shooting and gunhandling. It has to be the best investment that I have ever made. I am approaching 10,000 rounds through it. I have no regrets about buying my Henry.:D

It appears that the cold blueing is at the center of the matter.
Applying too much/long will also affect the results
The silver cleaner I used took it back to the natural finish much quicker that repeated applications of the blueing.

You just have to play with it till you get what you like.

Magical may have another opinion as he didn't use the silver dip.

My Henry is currently 'in process'. Today finished my custom front sight (see http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=275421 for details on it). Then, I just ruffed up the surfaces and applied some paint stripper. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get the paint off and after washing the parts off in water, I dried them and got out the steel wool for a light buff up.

For today, I just reassembled the rifle because I was anxious to try out my sights. I plan to take it apart again and spend some time detail buffing the pieces until I get the look I want and then coat them with Lustrekote Flat Clear made by Top Flight. You can find it in most RC Hobby stores as its resistant to even the harshest a/c fuels. Sheriff160 found it (see http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229795 for details and a discussion on both the Flat Clear and the Aluminum colored paint.

I really enjoy my Henry. So much so, in fact, that I have have future plans to buy a Mare's Leg, Pump Action, and a Golden Boy (all in .22).

Then once I move to a state with less oppressive gun laws (3 year plan is to move to Colorado), I will likely buy a larger caliber Henry, or two...

I digress.

Here is my first Henry (Frontier), which I am very proud to own:

Since those pictures, I have made her real shiny with some Scratch-X...
Pretty Rifle! You might consider moving one state north of Colorado. Colorado is getting as bad as the other liberal anti-gun states. Thats a shame too, as I used to like vacationing there.
