Help: Buying Marlin Westpoint GA-22

Hi All,

Not new to the site but am new to this specific forum. I have VERY little experience with Marlin rifles and was hoping to tap into some knowledge on this board.

As my grandpa gets older he is beginning to thin out his large gun and ammo collections. I went to see him today and he has a Marlin Westpoint GA-22 rifle that he would like to get rid of. He has had it for some time and it has never even been fired and is in amazing condition. He wants $125 for it and I'm trying to do some research on its value, but there don't appear to be many on the market to compare. I'd obviously be willing to pay a little more for the sentimental value but am still curious. I believe the medallion was either a fox or wolf but can't remember for sure. It also has a scope.

What do you guys think? Is this in line with what they would normally sell for or should I feel guilty for stealing from family? Thanks in advance for the help and I'm looking forward to hopefully adding another gun to the collection.

Tuff question... value is in the eye of the beholder. Your grandpa probably wants to pass it on to family so I would pay his asking price, thank him and tell him you hope to pass it on to your family one day.

A plain old Glenfield/Marlin Model 75C would probably sell for $100-125 in very good condition. The Great American Game Series was made by Marlin as a private label version for Cotter & Company a Chicago hardware chain and there were several different brass medallions used depicting small animals. Your rifle if with the fox medallion was made in 1986/1987 and there were 9,465 guns made. If it has the wolf medallion it was made in 1989. They are just starting to have some collector value and a used one in very good condition probably would sell in the $150-200 range. If new in box with all papers and never fired it might have a considerably stronger collector value giving it a premium over used condition. Hard to say how much maybe in the $250 area??? It all depends on who sees it at auction and you get a 2 or more bidder fist fight
