gunbroker new policies?

Didn't know where else to post this....

gunbroker just recently, told me that my account is locked, due to them updating their policies.

They now want a photo taken of my Drivers License, along with me holding the license, along with an Utility bill.

I assume this is to prevent fraud, and I have never violated, any of their policies, ...yet, they are requiring this.

In addition to this, they now charge some type of fee, to buyers, to offset their operating costs.

I'm beginning to think that gb, is simply being intrusive, and I may just close my account....maybe a case of "The juice not worth the squeeze".
Anybody else, encounter this???

Always cracks me up when people fill out a 4473 and don't put their SSN on it. The excuse, to a T is "I don't want the government knowing what I've got".

LMAO!!! The GOVERNMENT is who GAVE you your SSN!!!
I don't want the store clerks, owner, etc. having it ... Once, the BG check lady on the other end asked for SSN to clarify (apparently I have someone close in name/dob who has been naughty) and I provided last 4 on phone but not on paper (was helping a FFL buddy out so I got to run my own BG check for a transfer)

BEWARE, that might not be GB. Sounds like a Phishing expedition to me. How did they contact you? Via email? Verify where the email came from, and contact GunBroker through a different route than that which you received that information request. That might not be legit

Nah, it is legit. If you haven’t been on gb in a while they are doing this drivers license picture thing. Co worker had to do it to buy a serial numbered part. And they want all the info on the front of the dl exposed including birthdate. He did finally get it su submitted after three attempts. After seeing that hassle I have given up on gb. Between their tack on fees, taxes, shipping, transfer and whatever else fees I am missing, the last two things I got off gb were within $20 of buying it local and new. Used to be a decent deal sometimes for hard to find items, but the bs factor has gotten to high for me.

I have used gunbroker quite a bit over the years without any issues. I have recently been asked to submit a verification code sent to me via Email but never a photo of myself. I'm usually skeptical of listing's from those with bad, little or no feedback, very few photos and or poor quality images. Also those who either don't reply to questions or give very unspecific responses. If they are an FFL. does the location the listing match the FFL address. Not so happy with the 1% buyer fee and that my state requires sales tax on Gunbroker purchases. The added fees, tax and increased shipping costs have caused me to pass on a few auctions that I would not have passed up on before.

I get that. I'm a FFL. I'm sure "they" have all the data on me they could want. Probably true for the average gun/ammo buyer taking in recent events in this country (FBI investigating parents of school children at school board meetings) etc...
I like to think that BG isn't sharing my info willy nilly with anyone.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest that these boards are being monitored somewhere by someone.

I'm starting to think like you......

The bloom is off the Rose, for me. BTW, I know it's legit, because when I go to the website, it tells me I'm locked out.

I agree but, your local neighborhood tweaker isn't smart enough to function on a day to day basis.....do you really think they have the means or intelligence to use a TOR browser to access the dark web and then, from that point, gain access to that stolen data?? Nahhhhh, they do however, have means and intelligence enough to dig through your trash while looking for a slice of old pizza, and find something with dangerous personal info on it. those are the ones that are the scariest to me....the local actors.

Yes Sir....That is the claim....My card says that too.....it's pure rhetoric. Buddy of mine in Oregon has the same exact name of a convicted felon in Louisiana; my buddy will get denied every time if he doesn't put his SSN on the 4473.
In reality that number is about the only way they identify you when you are alive.
Just be thankful they aren't trying to identify you with dental records and DNA.

I believe the reason this came up for me, is that I normally buy items, from my home computer. This last purchase, I bought from my work location, and this might have raised a red flag...just speculating. The bottom line is that GB looks like it's getting to be a pain in the neck, and I'm considering, bailing on them.
