Here is one aspect that might influence your decision. I believe federson warranties their barrels regardless if you purchase through a vender or directly from federson. GreenMountain only warranties their barrels ONLY if you buy it direct from GreenMountain , if you buy a GreenMountain barrel through one of their various venders like Cabela’s they won’t touch your barrel if you find any defects.
Green!ountain well tell you to take it back to the vender and the the vender will tell you to send it to the manufacturer.

ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

for this reason I will never buy anymore 10/22 barrels made by GM..

I have several GM barrels and several Tacsol barrels. 0 issues with tacsol 1 bad barrel from GM. Next 20” barrel at todays prices will have me going to federson or Kidd. Kidd will get first choice.
even tacsol will warrantee their barrel regardless what your source.

Oh, NO! Anything but that!!! j/k

I don't believe rimfire barrels "break-in" the way centerfire barrels do, but I used the Green Mountain schedule. It was something like cleaning with a patch every five rounds for the first 50 and every 10 rounds for the next 50. No brushes during that, just patches.

You know how after a month of spit shines a shine will become more durable and easily restored? I think the Green Mountain process essentially spit shines the barrel using carbon wax and solvent to create many thin layers of residue. That's only my WAG.

I've also done it the other way, just cleaning after each outing. Both ways I'd say the barrel didn't reach its best accuracy until it reached 800 to 1000 rounds.
How many rounds of rws50 do you have? That’s your answer. If it don’t shoot worth a hoot from the start there is a problem.

Mattpew sir.

ClemE ain’t blowing smoke up your skirt. He and his 10/22’s he has hand built at home are well capable of supporting what he says. He has built more 10/22’s than I probably will ever own, this doesn’t include the total he owns or has owned.

ClemE isn’t the kind to make empty baseless unsupportable claims.

he is to 10/22’s as some are to CZ’s or Anchutz.
Not one part on his 10/22 build goes without attention, not one part and he doesn’t quit till that rifle is shooting consistently the way he wants or thinks it should.

if it was me I would stop before you have to eat your words. ClemE isn’t the only one on this forum that can easily meet or exceed ClemE’s claims at 25 or 50 yards or farther. There are a few here that build 10/22’s that rival and can compete with top tier benchrest rigs. “ notice I didn’t say BEAT”.

You have been warned.

Ps.
Clem
