Fed AutoMatch > Mini Mag?

It's a strange world when AutoMatch is more reliable than CCI, but here we are. I ran this box today while dialing in my new dot and couldn't believe how much more reliable this ammo performed compared to the last 1800 rounds of Mini Mag that I have used. It seems to burn clean and is very consistent in charge. The BM was surprisingly clean afterwards. 100x better than GoldenBoogers. $20 a box. I bought 4. I have a case of Blazer on order so I hope that performs as good as AM. $288 shipped!

Good deal.
Fed AM is my range buddy's go to for our weekly throwing lead down range but he uses Eley Subsonic HP for squirrel hunting. I've had good luck with Fed AM from both of my Varmint MTRs, it's a toss up between them and CCI SV but neither are as consistent as Norma TAC-22. Blazers also do pretty well but they don't like Mini Mags for some reason, go figure.

It's my go-to ammo for plinking at 50 yards with my CZ-512 Carbine,,,
I buy it at Wal Mart for $19.95 per 325 round pack.

Honestly, I can't remember the last dud,,,
It's been a few years back.

How it got such a bad rep is beyond me,,,
Several of my friends use it for Rimfire Steel Challenge,,,
They say it's the most reliable HV LRN ammo they have found.

Mini-Mags aren't allowed in Rimfire Steel matches,,,
At least that's what the rule book says,,,
You can't use copper plated ammo,,,
Lead cartridges only.

For my rifles that I try to stretch to 100 and 200 yards,,,
I use CCI-SV.

For 50 yard shooting and in most of my semi-auto handguns,,,
It's Auto Match all the way.

granted, I'm, new to steel challenge, but my local range doesn't have that rule. what's wrong with copper plated ammo?

edited to add, just realized, mini mags aren't copper plated, they're copper "washed"

I have a Sako Model 78 that I use in Long Range .22 Silhouette, this is the 3/8 scale targets starting with the chickens at 77 meters on up to rams at 200 meters. This Sako shoots Automatch better than anything I have ever tried in it including several brands of so-called "target" ammo at a much higher price. Just yesterday at our weekly match, I thought I would try some SK Standard Plus , shot 15x15 on the chix, pigs and turkeys. Went to the rams and it was like I was throwing rocks, shot about 12-15 rounds and did not hit one ram. I have shot several 60x60 scores with the Automatch and will stick with it now.

Been using CCI MM HPs in my 10-22 and Buck Mark 5.5 for years. Mainly for dispatching pesky varmints around my house & property. They have always been acceptable in the accuracy department at least out to 65 yds or so and do a good job with 1 shot kills on racoons and such. It's not 'match' ammo but it gets the job done every time. I see no reason to change any time soon.

I ran 975 rounds of AM through my Buck Mark over the past 2 days. Had a couple of duds, and a few rounds that didn't want to feed properly. But my gun was very dirty by the time I passed 500 rounds and the slide was getting mighty slow. So I figured it was time for a deep clean. Man, I launched that slide spring into orbit upon disassembly. I started to dismantle my work room and miraculously found it!

I like AM. Maybe I lucked out with the lot I have but it's surprisingly good. I use it in my KelTec CP33 and Ruger Charger Takedown SBR for steel challenge competition. If it didn't go bang and cycle them I'd change ammo but it has never caused a malfunction in many thousands of round fired. It's good stuff. It's also plenty precise, and not just for SC (which doesn't require high precision).

Back when there was that "shortage" of .22 ammunition, I packed up about a dozen 500 round bricks of AM22 because of its superior performance in my rifle and low price (about $11.97 at WM) at that time. Last year I purchased a 50 round box for around $4. That ammo shot patterns, not groups, with same rifle at same distance (25yds). Apparently quality has degraded over the past few years. I tried my second choice ammo, Blazer 40g RNL brick for about $19 at local sporting goods store and experienced excellent performance. Typical with the world of .22 rimfire...variations in lot numbers sometimes makes a difference. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
