Eley Team, best <$12 a box ammo?

Was wondering if anyone else's rifles likes Eley team as much as mine do? I First bought Eley team from Freeland sports last year when it was under $12 a box. Shot absolutely awesome out of both my T1X and B14r. So well in fact did it shoot out of my T1X I cancelled my plans to put my T1X up for sale.

In my two rifles Eley Team is the most accurate 22lr ammo at the at or below $12 price point. Took a bit of a gamble two days ago and ordered another half a case more.
For roughly $12 a box I can not beat it for most the matches in my area. I will admit SK Pistol Match Special is slightly better in my B14r but I haven't found Pistol Match Special in stock for a long long long time.

I also have a T1x that shoots Eley Team fantastic. Freeland's lists available velocities in stock and will sell boxes of 50 each of different lots to try out. The T1x rifles tend to shoot the higher velocities better, and I saw this with different velocity lots I tried. For the price, Eley Team can't be beat in the T1x.

I tried Lapua/SK ammo in my T1x, which my other rifle likes, and it didn't shoot anywhere as well as the Eley ammo.

End of day it's down to whether you got a good lot your rifles likes or not.

Team is high end ammo, its based on the Tenex Family of ammo - Tenex, next Match, then team.

Both my Match 54's like Team, sometimes better than Tenex/Match, It's all lot dependant.

Yes.......I had 7 boxes of Eley Team given to me by another shooter and this is how it shot in my rifle. Wish I had 10 cases of this particular lot#.

Bowchamp--- I should think so! I'll take a case of that as well. A casual look at your targets indicate 2100+ scores on all of them? If you care to share, what were the individual scores on those targets? They look pretty impressive to me, that's for sure!

I bought 28 lots to test. I found several that shot decent at 100 yards but only 2 that really were exceptional. I am noticing some flyers though. 1 out of every 5 rounds just like I have always seen from Contact. I like the idea of saving 3 dollars a box I just wish I could find the reason formthe fliers. Haven't chrony'd anything yet.

I did a verification on this same lot as the groups above were shot with. This lot likes hot weather and the other lot likes temps 70 or below. Neither shoots well except in the temp range they were tested in.
Pic 2335 was the verifying group. It was 12 to 15 mph wind from 4 to 5 o'clock. The left side of the group was holding center of the bull for 7 shots, then I held left edge more or less depending on the gusts for the remaining 13 shots.
The next pic was just before dark when the wind laid and I didn't get any flyers and it my be my best 100 yard group with a 22. It measured .156 centers.
Haven't had any cool weather to verify the other lot yet.
Any thoughts on the flyers will be welcome.

Jaia would tell you to inspect each bullet and look for imperfections, like nicks in drive bands, off center seating and iffy crimps. After looking at his results and inspections, he's definitely onto something.

Personally, I haven't gotten quite that crazy yet.
My first inclination is how did it feel squeezing off shot? Like some days you just feel dialed in, other days not so much.
My second thought would be ammo, either Jaia's imperfections, speed difference, priming/ignition. You'd have to inspect and chronograph to collect data and make the connection.
My third thought...wind and air currents. The more I shoot at distance, the more stunned I am at the huge impact wind has on 22lr. At 300 yds, I've seen impact shifts of 15-20" shot to shot with fluctuating winds.

All that said, I'm a fan of Team for it's performance to price ratio.

I've shot a decent amount of it. @Gizmo hit it on the head, IMO ... it's good, high-end ammo, the third tier of Eley's EPS (flat-nose) line.
As he said, heavily lot dependent on whether it will equal or outshoot the black box (Match) and the red box (Tenex). IME, you'll get the occasional lot that blows you away and makes you strongly wish it was always that good at that price. But, IME, I think in general you'll see a little less consistency within a lot and a more noticeable lack of predictability from lot to lot than with its two pricier Eley brothers.
But it is $3 per box cheaper than Match and $7 per box cheaper than Tenex.
At around $12, in my current match rifle, I think I'd go to it before what I consider its two nearest competitors in terms or price: RWS Rifle Match (when it can be had) and SK Long Range.
I think I'll order in a brick of Team and a brick of Match tomorrow.

The way it was explained to me, Eley starts out making all the flat nose rounds to Tenex standards. Lots that don't make Tenex standards then go to Match standards. Lots that don't make Match standards, become Team. Say they have a really good runs and produce their fill of Tenex, that same good run is boxed as Match. The good run fills the needed quantity of Match, the rest goes to fill Team. Kinda explains why some lots of Team shoot so much better than others.

I tried a box of both Match and Team in my Anschutz 1710. The Match shoots 1 hole groups at 50 yards, Team shoots 5 individual holes. As others have mentioned, it’s lot-dependent. I’m reluctant to spring for a case, or even a brick, if I don’t know what I’m getting. This is difficult.

I bough a brick and 1/2 of team to test out
and looks to shoot pretty good for me so far.
But more testing is needed for me to crown
it as the best 12 bucks a box.
There is plenty of it to buy on the e-net 👍
For 12 bucks a box of 50 try out some RWS
Rifle match if you can find any….also shoots
pretty good.

BC--thanks for posting the scores. THAT is pretty impressive shooting! My best recent match score shot on the ARA unlimited target was 2100 (local club benchrest match, just a "one card and done" match) and I was just happy as a clam! My stock CMP heavy-barreled 40X Rem was humming, using Federal "UltraMatch" ammo, and conditions were ideal. Hardly any wind. Can I shoot 2100 with the 40X ALL the time? That's a big "Heck No", but it sure felt good to do it that day. You have to be feeling REALLY good about shooting all FOUR cards 2100 and above. And that 2310 score is just outstanding. Well done! If you care to say, where did you finish in that particular match?

That was one of our club matches last year on 11-25-2023. I took 1st place and it was also the highest aggregate score I'd shot up to that day. I've shot higher match agg's since then. I'm just a weekend warrior at this game so don't read to much into it.

I'll be the first to say....2100 is a very very respectable score and with your 40X makes it even better!!! For me having fun comes first.

Anymore questions....just ask.

Thank you Sir!!!

Have you shot Eley Match and how has it performed as compared to Team? Although they are supposedly the same except they (Tenex, Match, Team) are classified by the Radial Shot Diameter differences, I have found the Team to shooter tighter than Match even if the same muzzle velocity. This I do not understand....yet.

I found the opposite. See my post above. I found match to group in the mid 0.3s CTC at 50 yards. Team was abysmal in comparison.
Thing is, with the price of Team, you can hunt through more lots for a fair bit less cash than Match or Tenex and get close performance for the not great lots.
Buying garbage lots of tenex has more sting to it, IMHO.
In the past 18 months ive tried maybe 10 lots of team,20 lots of Match and 5 lots of Tenex.
the best of them was 1 lot of Match, then 2 lots of Team, none of the Tenex i've gotten so far has been as good as those others.
So on a cost to performance basis, the Team has been about twice as good for me, even though the 1 lot of Match is the best shooting.
Maybe I've gotten really lucky with the Team or super unlucky with Tenex.

When you can snare 'em at $12 per 50, Eley Team and RWS Rifle Match are both good at that price point. I suppose the next competitor in that area would be SK LR.
As everyone has noted, it's more or less down to lot number lottery.
When I have Team, I run it on practice days, as that helps me stretch my stash of Match and/or Tenex.
