Never been one to keep track of score but i was contemplating taking part in RFC's shooting games/competition to keep my skills sharp, i would like to confirm im scoring my targets correctly so i dont make an *** of myself(the targets can do that all by themselves without my help)

Firstly, I think the target paper has not been your friend. The paper is too thin, and suits tear it too easily, which makes the job of counting shots (let alone scoring with a gauge) harder.

The lack of a backer compounds the issue. For instance, your 92-1x could be a 90-2X; there might be three in the 8-ring at 4o'clock.

I understand, these actually were shot against a backer but it has been through some stuff and has seen better days i will replace it with something sturdier. i was messing with the target to make sure i was counting all the rounds they can be tricky sometimes.

No, I wouldn't say the scoring is correct. It might be, but the 92, 89, and 87 all contain double shots/possible double shots and shots very close to scoring lines. If these were scored properly, with a gauge, to determine exact values the final might be different.

Remember the shot hole in the paper is usually smaller than the bullet, and shot value is based on bullet size not shot hole size.

In short scoring paper targets by eye is tricky, and scoring non-standard targets by eye us even trickier.

Thanks for the straight forward answer tim i appreciate it and due to the difficulty you have made apparent in scoring a target i have decided to not participate in the RFC online shoots. I appreciate your insight.

I would say you are missing a point or two here and there. If it touches the line, it scores the next higher value. The paper is making it difficult, and perhaps the bullet too. If I was going to shoot in the online matches I would buy some actual targets from say National Target, buy in bulk.

As an example, these two targets are "only" the TQ practice targets, but the paper is much thicker than 20lb copy paper. Also note the difference in the holes. CD was shooting Eley Club (round nose). KK (me) was shooting Eley Match (flat nose). My holes are much cleaner (easiest seen on the 100 yard target). But better targets will help a ton. And it really does help a lot to plug .22 holes.

Good luck, have fun!
