I promised my spouse I only wanted a bench rest (cheap) rifle to shoot non-competitive since I was getting too old to shot centerifire rifles.

So I promised myself I would not go down a rabbit hole. Liar, Liar, pants on fire.
Just pressed the button for a CZ 457 Varmint MTR 22 LR. Guns.com

Willl take two to three days to ship and then a 10 day (Calif) wait.

Promised spouse there would not be any additional (significant) $$$s since I would switch the scope and bipod over from the original rifle.

Liar, Liar, pants on fire.:pinocchio::pinocchio::cheers::cheers::yippee::yippee::banana::banana::merica::merica:

Welcome! I went down the hole 4-5 years ago...good trip...$$$ helps break the fall! Six months in I "invited" my wife to go with me to see what it's all about...she's been shooting with me since...I shoot weekly, she, about half as often. Now, is she serious about it? You tell me...I just installed an LSP Adjustable Bag Rider (ABR) on her CZ 457 Factory Chassis (MTD) gun as well as a Timney 457 trigger set to 6 ounces pull. Coming via UPS this week is an LJW Front Bag Rider (3"x6" plate), an Area 419 ARCA Clamp for the plate, and a pair of custom Protektor bags for the front rest and rear ABR. Are we having fun? You bet! Ray

You're gonna love it.
My late wife always thought that owning guns and ammo was even better than money in the bank if the proverbial crap ever hit the fan. In 2022 my neighbor buddy invited me to a private range and when I got back I told her how much fun it was and she said you need to join and buy a nicer new rifle. I bought a superbly accurate preowned 457 Varmint MTR at a bargain basement price from my s-i-l's brother who owns a gun shop. She was reluctant with me buying used but a few months later he called and said he found 4 brand new Varmint MTR's if I was interested in one. The wifey said buy it, it's equally as accurate as the 1st one so it was a win win. Dang I miss her.:giggle:

You are looking at it wrong-in reality you are making money! Centerfire ammo $40 a box, 22LR target ammo $20.
40-20- You have just earned $20! 4 boxes you have just earned $80!!:ROFLMAO:
Ed
Good thinking but you missed one thing....centerfire is only 20 rounds pe box while 22 lr is 50 rounds per box. So it is more like $50! 4 boxes = $200
Boy, wait until I tell my wife I am making us rich.🤓

Kinda like when she goes shopping and gets those bogo deals.....LOL
I think this is what you call "fuzzy math"..

Then take into account the ever-rising ammo prices.

This brick of match ammo costing 200 bucks now, could maybe raise to 250 bucks next year.

That would be a gain in value of 25 % p. a.. Which financial product can offer you that with such a low risk? Only risk is catching a bad batch. ;) :ROFLMAO:

Or look at plain TAC-22, costing 4 bucks a box of 50 not long ago, now at 6 bucks or more, hard to find, and with an announced price raise of 30 % for the future.

Congratulations and enjoy!

I'd be interested in reading about your experience with guns.com.
I will be interested also:D. I have not done business with them so this is my first.

On a positive note my first contact has been very encouraging. My local FFL was not on their list (to ship to). I emailed them as how to add the FFL. Within 24 hours I had a reply. I forwarded (by email) to my FFL who in turn emailed their credentials to guns.com and within a couple of hours my FFL was on their approved list of shipping FFLs. So I placed the order and got conformation of purchase the same day. That's fast!

Now we wait to see when it will be shipped. Will post progress as things happen.

Hi my name is Phil and I am a rimfire addict. I started with a switch barrel CZ 455 in .22 and .17HMR. I was a casual shooter so that suited me at the time. I quickly realized the HMR was a better varmit getter, so sold the 22-barrel and enjoyed wacking coons, armadillos, squirrels, coyotes and the occasional feral cat I would catch whooping up on the wife’s pet tabby. Then a friend said; “Hey grab your 22, I’m gonna take you to a long range steel match“. All I had was a 10-22 at the time so he said, Brandon at the local gunstore has a 457MTR. You’d be surprised at just how accurate they are.” That was almost 4 years ago. Now I have a custom Desert Precision Gunworks rifle, a DI Precision Vudoo, and a couple other 457s with Lija and Shilen barrel upgrades. Now I about to build a rim-x. These rifles didn’t come cheap but it’s nothing compared to the ammo bill.
welcome to the rabbit hole!

August 2024...One of my pistol buddies couldn't shoot centerfire any more due to arthritis. I'm not far behind and when he said he was going to shoot rimfire rifle off a bench. I told him I have an old CZ 452 in the safe that I hardly shot, so I'll join him. He said we'll probably need a decent Harris bipod and there is a sale on Arken scopes. No problem. That and some CCI Standard I bought on sale years ago and a towel rolled up under the stock and off we go. After a couple weeks others started joining us and we quickly realized the extra- long picnic table with a tarp overhead just wasn't going to work out. Jan 2025...We decided to pour cement and put up a 12-bench shooting pavilion. Feb 2025...How do you like the new CZ 457 Varmint MTR I just bought? Nice - How do you like my new Bergara and front rest? And on and on and on. You guys with your fancy new Chassis and Front rests are great, but I'm going to outshoot you with my factory MTR with inexpensive ammo! I just ordered a new Front and Rear rest that should be here in two days. That along with some Eley, Lapua, and SK that I found in stock should do it...for now. Yeah, I'm a liar too. BTW, just how deep is this hole anyway?
