Original question: CZ vs Savage
CZ is just made better.
I don't have a Savage rimfire but a LH 220 (bolt slug gun) and a LH CZ457 varmint that I've tweaked into a KRG bravo chassis.
Bought the 220 because its the only game in town for a reasonable $ (& accurate) slug repeater.
Machining on the CZ action is way better than quality from Savage.
Still going back & forth with Savage customer service about why I have to ram the bolt release back hard just to be able to barely wiggle the bolt out. Then there's the 6lb+ trigger pull. Never had any issues with the CZ.

I've also read that all cz rifle are made for dovetail rings only. Can I install a rail without the scope being too high.
Define "too high".

Diversified Innovative Products (DIP) makes one of the lowest profile pic rails for the CZ. Nothing wrong with just rings either. Depends on your scope of choice and distance you want to shoot

The factory trigger in my CZ455 17HMR was easy over 5 pounds and rough as a gravel road. The Savage 93r17 trr-sr has a 2 pound trigger and tge Savage B17 precision came at 1 pound 3 ounces.

Is CZ worth it? Maybe. Like any other mass produced product the chance of getting a lemon is always there. My Marlin model 100 single shot with open sights is what I consider to be my most accurate rifle, never missed a squirrel in 40 years. $15 at a yard sale.

I will let you know next Wed afternoon when the scope mounting rail arrives and is installed. Did you know (I didn;'t) the rail on a CZ is unique (11mm) so you need especially machined scope rings or a especially machined rail.:ahh:
Nonsense. Std 3/8's rings work just fine.

You are absolutely correct. As you can see by reading the some 67 earlier posts, I have been flooded with recommendations and corrections.

I have been (like forever) a Weaver person and have several scopes with those rings....wanted to just switch scopes without having to switch rings as well.

My first findings were that the 11mm rail required dovetail rings or an adapter rail ... I did not know was that 3/8" rings would fit.

Epags, sir just a little history for you that even the early models of CZ rifles came with 11mm dovetails on their rifles so the 455 and 457 just standardize the size so there is less problems which model had 3/8 dovetail or 11mm. A lot of other companies have 11mm dovetails on their rifle. Just so you know:

Okay thanks, but if CZs are so good why are so many discontinued? I know you all love your CZs but I'm not convinced they are for me. Can't see paying $800 for a rimfire rifle that may be discontinued next week.

I have 2 Savage model 93 rifles that I am very happy with, but have looked at the CZ 457. My question is are they really worth double the money?
LOL! All of us posters never asked the question before giving our opinons. Let's start over, unless you have decided one way or another.
I/we kinda jumped to the conclusion you were talking 22LR although the Savage model 93 rifles are .17 HMR and .22 WMR.
Thus the confusion re. burning out a barrel @2,200fps velocities.
So are you wanting to stay with those calibers?
Also, if you are 'very happy' with your Savage rifles what is the reason you might be considering a new CZ?

As for me, I have no experience with a Savage or CZ in the calibers you have been shooting so can not contribute to a discussion as to the accuracy between the two brands.

Yes I'm sticking with wmr. Daughter and grandson like to shoot it .instead of half a dozen different 22lr cartridges I buy one type of cartridge and it shoots .50 @ 50 yds and dispatches squirrels and rabbits @ 150 yds.

For starters I have several cz rimfire rifles all scoped with 3/8 rings so yes they do work.
I owned a few savage rifles, still have two, the difference I've seen is every Savage I've owned had at least one thing I thought could be better, just one little thing that I found slightly irritating. I have not owned a CZ that ever had a problem whatsoever with function and only one that I wasn't impressed with accuracy, a 22mag that shot 1.5 to 2 inch at 100yds. The real difference is the cz is much more refined especially the 457 .Savage guns are usually but not always accurate but very utilitarian. I think CZ has a little more class, if that matters to you in rimfire rifle.

Well I'm not giving up yet, but have a lot of irons in the fire right now. I'm 75 years old so when I get my other two projects done we'll see how much time is left on the clock. Right now I'm buying and building guns to have fun with but they are going to the kids when I'm gone.

Savage is just fine and are great shooting rifles. The CZ is a much more refined design and just nicer all-round than Savage, and with that comes a higher price tag. If that's not worth it to you, just stick with what you got... it's not rocket surgery.🤷

As far as CZ models being discontinued, you should do some research on the topic. It's model progression... stemming from the BRNO model 1 that dates back to the early/mid 1940's. The 457 is really the first hard deviation from the original design, but has more than proven itself.

I have a Savage model 93 in 17hmr and I’m very happy with the gun as well as its performance.
I also have 2 CZ’s happy with the 1 but the 2nd an MTR I was not very happy with but t was originally bought as a build gun. Still working on it but in all 3 guns I’m happy with them.
As has been mentioned the CZ is just a step up in build quality but that isn’t taking anything away from my Savage. It’s a solid gun, but fit and finish the CZ’s are just a tad bit better.

Good for you.... what's your point? It's still not a CZ...🤷... kinda harkens back to when Savage came out with the 'classic' line.. trying to complete with CZ...I say this in the nicest way possible, but it was lipstick on a pig.

I like Savage for what they are, but they are not up to the same level as CZ...hard truth. If cz isn't worth it to you...move on.
