CZ 457

I have the itch to pick up a 457 to keep around to plink some varmints that bother the chickens. I want a 16.5" barrel threaded 1/2x28 with a walnut stock. They dont seem to make it.

About 8 years ago I bought a CZ 455 Tacticool. I ran a few rounds through it to test a new suppressor on it and its sat in the box since then. 2 questions. If I swapped the 455 barrel with a new 457, would the finishes match? Would an unthreaded barrel severely devalue the 455 if I want to sell it?

The other option is the have a new 457 cut and threaded. From 16" back, how much larger is the heavy barrel? Is it worth the extra $50?

It looks like the 457 Pro Varmint and At-One have threaded 16.5in varmint barrels but not a walnut stock.
The Royal model has a walnut stock, 16.5in barrel but not a varmint barrel. What a dilemma.
Also, the nitride finish on the 457 is different than the 455 blued finish on the barrels and receivers.

Royal model is 1/2x20, but I could use an adapter. I just don't really like adapters. Thanks for confirming the finish difference. I can see that now after pulling out the 455.

Since no one said it yet. The finish wont match. I would not let that bother me. Buy the 457 and swap the barrels. You can alwasy swap them back. A non threaded 455 shoudl not drop 1c in value due to the muzzle. But,I think the non origional barrel would take a hit. You never know a heavy varmint barrel on a 455 Tacky Tool might carry a slight premium. You are looking at a 25" American barrel? In the event you had a great shooting 455, complete with your test targets, I would think a significant premium would be the order of the day.

I'm still trying to figure out why you just don't use the 455 with suppressor to "plink some varmints that bother the chickens."
If you want a different rifle, I'd get a 17 HMR for that task.

Because I like the 457 improvements and walnut stock. I have other guns that work fine, but 22LR is the only thing I have found that is nearly silent. I have a CVA 300bo that is decently quiet for bigger issues and hunting.

I think the Royal is just about double the price of the American. While I have been critical of the Royal style, with a 16.5 & supressor it looks right, very right. Any other way, it is just bizzaro.
I'm not sure what the price increase buys? I can get an American or Varmint depending on which barrel I want, and have it cut and threaded to 1/2x28 and not 1/2x20 like the royal, and still probably come out cheaper. Not having the stupid engraving is also a plus.

the 457 gun is nitide finished receiver and barrel. The 455 is a nitride receiver and polished blue barrel. . The 455 will look fine with the nitride barrel, and the 457 will look ok too.
But why dont you just use the 455?
I would want to swap the stock for something more traditional. Shooting the tacticool stock standing feels weird to me. At that point selling it to someone who wants it as is probably makes sense.
