Thought I would stick this here so the group would have a place to go for updates/tips/stories and lies for the next 3 months.

Also, for anyone new interested in joining in the fun this upcoming season here is the place to get your questions answered.

I hope everyone made it throught the holidays safely and continue in good health.

Glad to hear all is well Bill. Too cold for me here too. My old bones just won't take it. Not enough insulation. I'll be spending time in the shop taking stuff apart, cleaning, changing stuff to try first thing when I get a warm day. Working on some year end stats to post just for fun and information. Hope to get it posted next week. Getting a couple of lottery tickets. If I happen to hit it, I'm building a 50 yard indoor range.............. after I get the driveway paved.

Lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math. Having said that, I've bought a few in my life. Sometimes it worth a buck or two to dream a little.
My dad would already say " did you pay any stupid tax this week or today?" Lotto tickets is what he would be talking about.

I hope she shoots good for you App. I guess I'm still stuck with this old 452...... unless I hit the lottery tonight. I only play a couple of dollars and only when it gets to stupid amounts. Who knows. II might get lucky.

Greetings friends; missed a few matches this year due to competing priorities and a few non-rimfire projects. Always great fun to share the event. It is a really good way to 'feel' a little bit of competition 'stress'. I'll be back this year with even older eyes!! Might get out the CZ 513 "Basic" again!!

Thanks, I need this thread

Thanks for starting this thread my friend. It is so cold now, there's not a lot I want to do outside. Trapped a raccoon in the backyard. Always some beastie ghosting out of the timber up to my house for some reason. It is fortunate for us that the Green Monsters don't like the cold either. If they didn't hole up in January and February I'm not sure I could keep them off the porch. And ya'll know how I hate it when varmints go digging through my stuff.

Seriously, it is a constant battle to clean up all the wren nests on my shooting table. I've killed four of the enterprising little squatters in the last month or two and I know there's still a pair out there waiting for me to turn my back so they can build a big dirty nest on top of whatever is my favorite stuff. One time they made a nest in the air outlet for my dryer. That was craptastic.

Wrens are welcome guests in my part of the flatlands. Now starlings, crows & Canada geese they're another matter.

^Yeah..... I have the same issus with them. Worse during the warm weather since I leave the door open on my shop and they are forever flying in and starting a nest inside somewhere.

Hopefully I will be able to get some work done on my range later this year before shooting season. I want to build a bench outside that will be more stable than the one I use in the shop now. To do that I have to cut down about 4 trees to widen my shooting lane but they aren't too bad. One pine about 40' but the rest are small firewood. Any time you want to come up and help an old man out, feel free.

Some of these guys are trying to really mess me up. First it was Appalachan2 who was really Appalachain but is now Appalachain2. Now I'm wondering if 1522steelshooter has run into problems and is STEEL SHOOTER or is STEEL SHOOTER someone new to me altogether? Life gets so confusing sometime.

It must have been a while since you were around bigbluegill cause I've not seen the name before and have been here a couple of years now. Will be glad to have you back. (I'd rather have a mess of bluegill for supper than bass or crappie any day).

Not to shooting but to this CZ green monster shoot. On 9-1-2020 I purchased a CZ 457. Returned the gun to CZ on 10-30-2020. It was not shooting the way I thought it should, and apparently CZ had the same thought as I did. They replaced the barrel and worked on the trigger. Gun was retuned on 12-14-2020. Finally got to the range last Friday. Gun shot much better than before. Only had Winchester bulk ammo with me at the time. Waiting on a warmer day with calm winds to shoot better ammo.

This gun was bought to shoot this match and one of the factory bench matches. The organizers of the factory bench rest matches had decided that my 2 Winchester 52 D were not allowed.

The only problem I have run into while preparing this gun for the GreenMonster match is the weight restriction of 9 lb. Most of my scopes put the gun over the 9 lb. limit. Found a BSA 4-12 power AO scope on top of the safe. Don't even remember where it came from. The gun set up is weighing in at 8 lb. 15 oz. Ready to start practice.

See you in a few months when the match starts, that is if I am still around.

Which 457 do you have ?
I know several of the 457's and some of the 455's make it a challenge to meet the 9# weight requirements.
My 455 Tacticool with its 24" heavy taper barrel barely makes it at 8# 15oz with light rings and a Nikon EFR 3-9x40 scope .
I would think any model with a heavy barrel longer than 16.5" or one in a laminated stock like the At-One is going to heavy .

I was going through my e-mail contacts list and realized that, if for some unforseen reason, the site went away I would not have any way to contact those of you who shoot in the monthly matches and who I have come to think a lot of. With that in mind, if anyone is so inclined, could you please PM me your e-mail address which will be kept in a secure location for reference if the need should arise. No, I do not wear a tinfoil hat but I do keep a good supply of wood in the shed, just in case I need it.

These matches have meant a lot to me over the past 2 years. They have brought me hours of fun and sometimes anguish and heartache but it was still very enjoyable. They have also introduced me to some of the nicest and most helpful people I have had the pleasure to know. My only regret is that we are separated by such great distances that the camaraderie of a campfire or just a rocking chair may never be realized. I wish that weren't the case but life is what it is and we must make the best we can of it. Right now, these matches are some of the best there is.

If someone has some more definitive information that can be passed along to assure the accurateness of this please chime in so I can make corrections and/or additions. As best as I can ascertain, using my limited search skills, it appears to me that the 25 yard scoped matches came in to being in August of 2016 with Timberbeast leading the charge. He modeled the matches after a 50 foot open sight match Danny Creasy was running at the time. It appears that Danny assumed the responsibility of running both matches in November of 2016 and continued till earlier this year when he attention was needed in other areas.

As a result of the outstanding work by these two gentlemen we can now enjoy the competition and fun of each other's company albeit over the internet. For their efforts in establishing these matches and for the efforts of assuring that they continued for all of us to enjoy I propose the following:

Hi Lee, it's been a while but I am really hoping to get back in the matches this year. Situations being what they were in 2020 I never fired a shot.

Anyway, I don't know if this is germane to your question about any additional info but I looked back through my targets and the first match I personally joined was the July 2015 50ft open sight match using the Green Monster. I shot for score on 07/27/2015 and had the infinitely forgettable score of 145-0X. I believe Danny started the match that year in April but it's more than possibly I'm wrong about that.

Nothing on me there Squrrelbark. I'm just the short term guy with his finger in the **** to keep things rolling till someone with some smarts comes along to take over but thanks for the thought. All the credit goes to those 2 guys for getting this thing going in the first place.

I think they got used to dining on all those Green Monsters I killed in the Summer and Fall...but now they are really hungry because one coon went for left over shrimp sushi (my girl thinks she's a Japanese Anime character), one went for leftover chicken bone scraps and the cat went for corned beef:D

The holidays are over and the first month of the new year is nearly over as well. Just a couple of months and we will be back at it. I'm not one to wish my life away but I sure am anxious for warmer weather and the friendly competition and banter to begin again.

I wanted to pass something along as I have been contacted by some shooters about issues previously voiced regarding the rules and some of the rigs being shot last year. Please be aware, this is not calling anyone out nor pointing fingers in the least. I think this was a hold over from and earlier discussion but since it came back to me I felt the need to follow up.

The issue dealt with the rule concerning the maximum weight of a setup to be eligable to compete in the 25 yard scoped matches. As we all know, the maximum weight allowed is 9 lbs. and is addressed in the rules on the first page of each months match thread. Some of the newer offerings from CZ have pushed over 7.5 lbs. according to the information on the CZ website. These rifles, along with the 455 Tacticool with the long barrel make scope choices critical to remain within the weight limit. One member reported that his rifle, with his original scope setup weighed in at 8 lbs. 15.98 oz. So close that he chose to go with a different scope to lower his overall weight. That degree of concern is commendable as no one would have known nor probably questioned his rig.

All of this is said to just point out that, as a group, everyone is viewed as honorable and competative friends and it is incumbent on each of us to try and maintain that level of trust and honor with everyone. I'm not wanting to start another series of posts showing scales and poundage, just passing along what came my way and encouraging everyone to be ready. April is just around the second corner.
