Can someone advise me about the Cooper Model 36. I understand that this model was replaced by the model 57. Any suggestions about if this is worth purchasing? Any issues?

I don't know where all the anti #36 comes from but it usually starts from someone that never owned one. I've had 4 and they all shot great. Probably the main reason the 57's came was that the #36 bolts were very complicated and more $ to produce. I would not hesitate ,ever, to consider one.

I owned two_One wasn't too bad after I got the
"ejector falling out the magwell problem"(They should have realized in the designing stage that a more than a little allen screw was required to hold it in )solved, though never ejected too well, the other a disaster due in part to poor quality control and even poorer after sale service-after two trips back, it was still a dog.Glad they're gone.Best gun move I ever made was selling them and putting the money into Cooper stocked Annies.

I was reading Dean' post, dated 10-16-2006, clicked the edit button and saw the missing huntingpictures photo.

I restored the exact photo that Dean originally posted and added two more.

I plan to restore Dean's missing photos when I read his posts, as best I can.

Sadly, Dean passed away at 68 on Dec. 7, 2020 from Lymphoma cancer.

He'll be deeply and greatly missed, especially by me.

I have two 36s, one number 20X classic and the other a McMillan Featherweight silhouette number MFW11X. The sporter did not always eject that well until a friend supplied me with a pair of extra strength extractor springs. The Featherweight bolt has redesigned extractors that are longer with more leverage and it ejects just fine. You can see in the pic the difference between the extractors.

Both rifles are fine shooters also. No complaints from me. I love them both. I have six 57s and one 21 MTV in .223 as well and still shoot the 36s more than any. I would not hesitate to buy another 36.

I actually prefer the grip profile of the 36, which I believe has been revived in the Jackson Squirrel version of the 57.
