Looking at posting my Colt Colteer on a local bulletin board and thinking of posting it at $300.00.
Does this seem like a fair price for a rifle in excellent condition.
Attached is a photo. (does not include scope that is shown)
I have absolutely no intentions of selling on RFC, just honest opinions of fair market value, so no flaming please.

Thanks,
Marlin Fan

According to a book of 2007 prices, your price is low. At that time the value for excellent grade was $450, and very good was $350. Prices have only gone up since then but I do not know you gun (don't own one). I think you would have to add at least $100 to move the 2007 prices to 2014.

Once you set your price, you might well sell it here. I am not in the market and have no dog in the hunt so just curious about why you would not sell it here if you get a fair price?

Nice looking scope - you are keeping that, right?

Dana Thomas
PS the book is 2007 Standard Catalog of Firearms 17th Ed - Collector's Price and Ref Guide. p.342

Dana, thank you for your input.
In all honesty the rifle is probably in very good condition rather than excellent like I originally posted.
Excellent condition I would imagine is like NIB condition, where this rifle has 2 very tiny chips on the receiver, but the stock is in excellent condition.
The reason for not selling here is that I do not want the hassle and cost of shipping and FFL fees.
I would prefer to sell locally where there is cash exchange and hand over the rifle.
As for the scope, I would probably sell with the rifle for an additional $40.00. The scope is very clear but it is just an older Tasco 3x9x40

If you are buying to keep and use for a shooter, I would pass on it. I bought one cheap that needed a little work and once I got it working, got rid of it on a trade.

There is another thread here that discusses this rifle and the concensus is they are not reliable and just average shooters. YMMV

They were made in the late 50's early 60's for Colt, by a subcontractor named Jefferson Manufacturing Co. Colt terminated production in the early 60's. And got out of the longgun business.

Although they are Colts. Not a heck of a lot collector interest in them. Unless NIB with all original documentation and accessories.

If you can get a quick $300 out of it without any hassle, go for it. Because of the Colt name, folks tend to thing they are a lot more valuable.

You sure you are not referring to the older Colteer that was a bolt action?
