I am going through the same thing.
OK, put seems limiting, I have been a member since 2007. I have bought several guns from members, but never felt the need to make comments of little value to be a "full" member.
We didn't make this rule without some serious thought. Scammers are everywhere and in many cases had taken over old accounts with low post counts. People lost many thousands of dollars.

You'd think you could welcome some new folks or comment on some posts. We are talking about between the two of you, 27 posts. This is an interactive discussion forum; we'd love your input.

It doesn't take a lot of effort to welcome a new member. It also doesn't take much effort to try and help someone. Lots of member here share information and that's why this site thrives.

I'm glad they are trying to protect us.
Thanks for that

Been here since ‘14, just had to go on a post binge for the same reason.

can’t say I love it.
Your join date is an attractive disguise for digital criminals.

Old accounts like yours, with “pernicious post count anemia”, are prime targets for hackers. If they can take the reins, your join date lends an air of legitimacy to the account when viewed by other members. They take over your account & deceive others with WTB ads, stealing their hard earned cash.

Requiring 30 posts provides us with a digital forensic trail of breadcrumbs that we use to vet the legitimacy of resurrected accounts and ban those that are being used as criminal sock puppets.

We had a rash of theft about a year ago and several members lost substantial sums of money. The 30/30 rule was instituted to protect you & all members. It has been in place for 7 months and has been highly effective.

Hope you have a great New Years!

To further protect RFC members, it’s best to use strong passwords that can’t be easily cracked. At least 12 characters - with a mix of uppercase, lower case, numbers, and special characters. No words which are in dictionaries. Write it down and save it when you log in.

And for general security, passwords should not be used for multiple accounts.

Hi Doc,
I’m not usually prone to being a sycophant, so enjoy this rare moment.
I appreciate the effort you and the other moderators put in to keep this site as safe as possible from scammers. Additionally, the requirement to keep things civil is much appreciated. I frequent a few other forums, not necessarily gun related, and the ones with tight reins are much more pleasant to read.
Some of these guys don’t know how good we have it here.
Keep up the good work!

And using $ for S, 0 for o, etc. doesn’t help as all those permutations are already included in rainbow tables. As are picking keyboard sequences of characters and letters …. Even if diagonal. :)

I've been a member of this site for nearly 20yrs, with a perfect Marketplace rating, and don't have access to the Classifieds? You've got to be edited by moderator) kidding me...
23 posts in 19 years…

24 Reviews from marketplace transactions.

Prior to this post, your last activity on RFC was 2015.

Many things have changed, including criminal activity on the Internet which has necessitated a 30 post minimum rule for access to the marketplace classifieds.
That 30 post minimum gives us and our software a digital forensic trail of login IP’s and the information/content posted helps us to vet user accounts and weed out hackers, scammers, and thieves that are looking to prey on our community.

Accounts like yours are the ones that are prime to get hacked and used to rip off others, because the criminals cloak themselves in the legitimacy of your sales history.

That’s all your account has been used for- free access to the classifieds to buy and sell.

The marketplace classified is maintained for the participating members of this community.

So, you have a simple choice – you can make seven more forum posts to gain access to the classifieds, or you and your “perfect rating” are certainly entitled to go elsewhere.

Nope ,new rules were put into place because of scammers. You need 7 more post , then log out and log back in and you should be good to go. 30 post and 30 days of being a member is what’s required, as you said you’ve been a member for a long time so you just need a few more post .

Your profile shows access to the Marketplace Classifieds & PM conversation systems. It can take an hour or so to update on the server. As FLT said, log out & back in. If that fails, try again, but the second time, delete internet cache & cookies before logging back in. If you’re still having trouble, contact me on my profile wall.

Hey, I DO have 30 posts, and still don’t have access?
logout and back in
Yep- I just checked and your permissions for private messaging and the classified are set properly. Just follow Franks advice and all should be good. If it doesn’t work, post back here or answer the PM that I sent.

Okay, well I'm a new user here, and I understand the security. Maybe allow new users to BUY only before they can post anything for sale in the classifieds.... just a thought.

Been there, join a new forum because the public classifieds have a long discontinued item I've wanted for years. Then have to wait a month before having PM privileges and forum posts with contact information are prohibited. The good news is this forum offers the opportunity buy your way out of waiting.
