I own both of these and regardless of vintage or manufacturer of magazine, both have a feeding angle issue.
in order to make them feed I have to shim the lower back of the magazine with a piece of matchbook cover or other thin cardstock. That slightly elevates the front of the magazine and allows the rounds to feed.

do others have this issue? I’d there a better fix? Is it an issue with the magazine catch or magazine catch spring?

Yes, many CA AR7s have this problem. You can permanently shim the back of the magazine with a shim cut from an aluminum soda or beer can. I would try another magazine to see if that cures the problem. If the problem occurs from all magazines, you could also glue such a shim to the receiver.

There are 2 separate problems with many AR-7 pistols/rifles as far as feeding. The 1st is that the mag release fails to hold the mag fully up in the mag well. I took my release to a welder to add a bead of steel to the top. Then I shaped it to correctly hold the mag in place.

The 2nd problem is the mag has the feed ramp and it is not well supported. It tends to bend down over time. I got tired of adjusting it back up and cut a small ramp into the barrel face at the bottom of the chamber. It's maybe 1/4" long and less than 1/16" deep at the chamber. I never experience feeding problems now, and there's not been any case swelling opposite of the firing pin strikes.

I did use the shim method for a while before I decided to fix the problem correctly. It worked but it wasn't very convenient. The welder charged me about $30 for his time. That was around 8 years ago.

I remember reading this several hundred years ago. And forgetting it. Some one’s suggestions to bend the wire on the magazine was not helpful, since on my rifle the front of the round was too low. Thanks again. I’ll try this tomorrow.
