Evening, now that I have my Mark II FV-SR and Vortex Crossfire II 4-12x 44mm, I’m considering a Boyd’s Rimfire Hunter stock. From everything I’ve read, they’re really really nice stocks, my question is, once I have it, will any fitting be required, or is it a straight up drop in stock? Also, will any bedding work be required?
Thanks

Ken

My Savage MKII FV 22lr with 21" heavy barrel with Boyds spike camp stock and a Redfield Tracker 3x9x40 i put on it to test the accuracy it drops in with no fitting and barrel is free floating also and it shoots as good or better than my CZ457 American i bought them both new at the same time and they both shoot better than i thought they would

Thanks, is there much of a trick installing the DIP bottom metal?

Ken
Remove old bottom metal install new bottom metal two screws and 1 minute.
DIP includes screws of the correct length and you should use an adjustable torque wrench for the action screws for consistency and to avoid over torquing.
For the Savage Mkll BTV (laminated stock) the supplied bolts are too long and have to be ground down...just did it yesterday.

When the original bolts bottomed out @ 14in-lbs you could still see a gap between the bolt head and the DIP new plate. I used a drumal tool with a sander disk to grind off the excess. The final DIP bolts were longer than the original Savage furnished bolts (more engagement which is good)

DIP includes screws of a suitable length at least in my case. If you're trying to use screws from the curved bottom metal to the new flat metal I could see this as an issue. It was plug and play on the At-One which has a flat bottom metal and they're not bottomed out as I can easily torque them higher if needed and no space exists between the bottom metal and screw head.

Well the Rimfire Hunter stock arrived today. I went with Boyd’s bottom metal kit (probably shouldn't have) but it’s kind of odd unless I’m not understanding, Boyds kit includes the trigger guard and bottom metal, yet there were only 2 screws in the package, either I’m missing two screws, or only two are required for everything?
Thanks

Thanks whiskytango, I was wondering about that. As for the trigger guard screw torque, I believe DIP, as well as possibly someone from here said 14 inch pounds for each of the two screws , does that sound correct?

I’m sure I’ll get used to the stock color, but specifically asked for the walnuts to be in dark brown, which actually is a blondish color. It’s a beautiful stock, just not what I expected
