Bolt lock plate hitting mag latch plunger

The stock bolt release was very hard to use so I decided to do the auto bolt release mod. However, after grinding and grinding on the bolt lock plate I realized that the problem is not with the shape of my grinding on the hole. Instead, the plate is getting sandwiched between the frame and the magazine latch plunger. This is keeping the auto bolt release mod from releasing properly. I tried lightly sanding the sides of the bolt lock that are rubbing the latch but there is still enough friction to keep it from auto releasing. Anyone else run into this problem and how did you solve it?

Anyone know where to buy a replacement mag latch plunger? :D I got a little carried away and now it won't catch on the mag release.

I chucked up the plunger in my 1/2" drill and used a dremel cutting wheel to grind down the edge. Unfortunately, it ground away the plunger much quicker than I expected. Now the plunger and spring fly out when I use the mag release...

I understand the difference between grinding and polishing. I was using a file at first and it was going VERY slowly so I switched to the cutting wheel. When the new ones come in, I'll use the cutting wheel but do it a little slower this time. No big deal I just got a little impatient.

In my experience it isn't the plunger itself that is the problem, but the fit between the bolt release and mag release that causes the interference. As someone else stated, most aftermarket mag releases need a little clean up, just a touch, because they usually bind up a bit. If you did your own bolt release mod take a little time to make sure the bolt release is smooth and deburred as well. That and a little extra gun oil in the area and mine always work fine.

I'll take a look at the fit between the magazine release and the plate as well. My order should ship today so I'm hoping to get it by Saturday (USPS). I'm working on sanding down the stock to prep it for paint so at least I'm not having to wait on it to go shooting!

LOL it wasn't your fault. I shaved a little and tested it but it was still causing a problem. So... I went nuts with the dremel and made it too small :D On a brighter note, the stock is now in primer and soon to be ready for paint. Now to decide what color(s) to paint it...
