I had a Henry frontier in 22wmr that shot very well, but I can't say that it shot into 1moa at 100yds, I only shot it with peep sights and generally had groupings around 2-3 moa. Hard to say what it would've done if it were scoped. However, I have an old Voere BF in 22wmr with an old leupold 12x and it will shoot into 1min at 100, 99% of the time, with select ammo. While my other mags shot well with the 30gr hornady ammo, the Voere doesn't like it, prefers the hornady 45gr critical defense, but also shoots close to 1min with fiocchi/cci 40gr as well. Good luck in your search.

NoSecondBest said it all. Get a 17 HMR. The 22 mag ammo is not consistent enough, the 17 is just barely. In 17HMR, I've got a Savage and a CZ. Both shoot great.

I have long loved 22 mag. But I realize that 1.5 to 2 Mao is the norm. You may get the occasional lucky smaller group. I have many 22 mag's and love them all. (Annies, Rugers, Keltec and more) But you have to look at the rifle and ammo combination realistically. I think my collapsible Keltec is my fave.
Because of the inconsistencies in ammo, and to be honest I guess, and my less than excellent shooting, I`ve found it difficult to maintain consistency when it comes to MOA shooting with my 17HMR. And then there`s the wind.

To Turkeytider... Try to get various brands and bullet weights to try in your 17 HMR. That may find one that gets you better accuracy.

I hope you have a good stable front rest & rear rest and a scope that goes up to rather high magnification. If you can not put the cross-hair or dot within a precise repeatable location on the target, you are introducing an element of error.

On my Savage 17 HMR, it has a rather low quality 3-9 power scope. Aiming at a 1/2" dot at 100 yards at 9 power with my old eyes, it is not likely that I hold it the same each time. So for me shooting this rifle to its fullest potential, I probably need about 18x or more. Your results may be different!

This is not cherry picked and not quite 1 MOA. I was sighting in at 100 with the first group (at 100) in the middle, adjusted then shot the outer dots left then final group right. Ruger American is nothing special. You are hunting? Right? There is nothing magic about 1 moa vs 1.1 or 1.2. I was at the club one day with his gun and never went back. (ok yes, back one day to show a buddy) I just carry it around and kill stuff with it.

Slow afternoon at the office. ;)

MOA capable 22 wmr rifle?

I'm going to say most of them.

Bear with me for a moment...moa capable, not consistent moa results. :sneaky:

Why not consistent? The limitations caused by cartridge manufacture and assembly.
It's intended to be used as a hunting/varminting round, not for benchrest use.

It is quite capable of punching a few tight 5 shot groups.
But use it to shoot for score...those velocity and cartridge variations will bite ya', hard. :(

Use it for center of critter out to 75/100 yards, most 22 wmr rifles will do the job, easily.

Being a Mossberg collector I couldn't wait to find the rare 640M so I found a mannilcher stock cut down a 640K to 18 1/4" faced and crowned it with tools from Brownells ,All my 640 22WMRs out shoot my Marlin's -even with their lousy triggers, this was a test target on my custom 640M ~~JMJ~~

40 years ago my friend bought an HK 300 in .22 magnum. It was an excellent shooter, most reviews back in the day put it in the MOA or less range. Back the we could see and shot many 1” 100 3 shot groups with open sights.
Those are stupid expensive now, they were probably $400 new in the early 80’s.

looking to buy a 22 mag. how about a list and votes for a 22 mag. rifle that has the best chances of grouping around that 1" at 100 yards mark .
i know it can be luck of the draw sometimes but looking for a rifle that has the better chances of doing that. trying to stay cheaper than high end but might go higher if i have to shooting mostly from a bench rest.
Ive been shooting a 22 mag since 1975 and I love it.Its all about the ammo.I will say this as well .Most 22 mag barrels are too sloppy and the twist rate is too slow.I went with a 1 n 12 and it shoots twice as good as before. My 1776 Winchester lever 9422m is super accurate. Just lucky and got a good one when i bought it new.My Henry is also very accurate. My Ruger Precision was just okay until I put a Shilen barrel oin it.Not its real good. You have to find a ammo brand and Lot # thehy like is the deasl.

Sir,
If you are looking for the best ammo, you need to buy a small box of every different type of ammo you can get your hands on. Every gun even the same model that came off the assembly line right after yours is going to shoot a different ammo better then yours and better than the next. I have a Savage model 93lf and I shot over 20 different rounds threw mine and at 50 yards the best was Winchester Dynapoints I could cover the group with a 50cent piece. That is truly the best way to find out what your gun likes and shoots the best.
Then you would want to accurize the rifle with a good stiff stock (I have a Boyd laminated on mine) glass and or pillar bed the stock and free float the barrel, that will shrink the size of your groups. That will give you the best your gun can be with the best ammo that it likes. If you buy a good rifle and do the above then you should be happy with the results.

Cooper. The accuracy does not come cheap though.

The 22 mag is not a target cartridge and you will drive yourself to madness trying to make it one.

I have a 77/22 that is a great rifle, but it took forever to find a round that would consistently do 2 inches at 100 yards. And the next box wouldn't do it again.

But I suppose I could have tried harder, research here on RFC seemed to point me in the direction of 17 HMR for longer range stuff.

If you are determined, I would think a custom rig would be the way to start, to limit the variables to the ammo as much as possible.
I give a complete ditto. I have been messing around with rimfire for 50 years, and .22 mag has been my nemesis. FWIW I consider it a crippled design.
