Beretta Olimpia Double Scope Mounts

Recently refinished and tuned up an Olimpia rifle and now that it's shooting nicely, I figured time for a scope. After researching the excellent resources on this forum I decided to try the Leupold 55880 mounts as detailed by members Jodwillow and Muriner. Leupold 57395 (gloss blk) or 57400 (silver) are other colour alternatives.

I drilled and tapped to use larger M5-.80x30 cap screws which tighten down nicely and fit perfectly in the cross grooves on the Beretta. My rifle has the longer scope mount section so two mounts will fit. I did have to grind down the one mount to make sure it didn't foul the bolt.

The scope still hangs out there awkwardly at the back end on the mounts, but so far nice and solid after a couple of hundred rounds. And, you can remove the bolt with the scope in place. Just up, back a bit, and then horizontal to remove.

Thanks for looking,
Mike.

Thanks, Al.

After stripping, dent removal and sanding, it got a coat of stain sealer, followed by Timbermate grain filler. Once that was sanded down, a weak red dye, followed by weak yellow dye, and then three coats of dark-ish brown dye to the tone I liked. Then 6 (7?) coats of MinWax Tung Oil (which is pretty Tung-less) thinned with some mineral spirits and applied with a cloth. It was 24 hours between coats. I very lightly sanded with 600 sandpaper between the first three coats.

It's been out and about quite a bit this winter and seems to be holding up quite well.

I realize this is an older thread, but I don't see anything newer. Colemancollector's solution looks good for the longer scope mount section with the two screw slots. Has anyone found a solid solution for the Olimpia's with the shorter scope mount section with one slot?

It's a 16mm wide dovetail. There are CZ's with 16.5 mm dovetails, but those are flat on top- the Olimpia curves up on top so the mounts for those wouldn't fit without a lot of grinding. Others have screws that come across too low and would hit the curved top.

Thanks 340mech. I have a Sport and a Target. I'll try those Leupold mounts out on my Sport. I got an Italian mount and drilled and tapped it to fit my Target model, this is a test run with a cheap 10 year old scope.
To use this mount requires removing the front sight, which I don't want to do on the Sport; so that gun will be the test platform for the Leupold mounts.

Now I need a scope for the the Target and this Italian mount. I'm trying to find one with sufficient eye relief and that is small enough diameter that I'll be able to remove the bolt without removing the scope. These mounts require a 1-3/4" wide section of 1" tube to mount, so there aren't many scopes that meet all the dimensional requirements. Maybe a red dot with a 1" tube could work?
