Wanting to replace my carbon fiber lightweight barrel on my Volquartsen summit with a .920 stainless match barrel for more weight, Does anyone besides Volquartsen make a barrel for the Summit action?

Have tried a couple 10/22 barrels and they just don't feed as slick, Volquartsen says there's a slight feed lip on their Summit barrels and was wondering if anyone has had any success putting a 10/22 barrel on and getting it to feed smoothly...

Heck I can't get the volquartsen barrels to feed smoothly. But I've read where some guys are using a gunsmithers block to put upward pressure on the barrel and that has helped with feeding. Along time ago I had a volquartsen 18" stainless bull barrel on mine. It seemed to cycle better than the volquartsen carbon fiber barrel I switched it to later.

I had my summit for a long time and did a lot of changes to it to try to make it cycled better. I eventually contacted volquartsen and sent it back to them. When I got it back it shot better and cycled better. I sold it to a friend who has since had cycling issues and accuracy issues with that same rifle. He switched out the Kidd 2 stage trigger I had on it for the summit trigger and it seemed to improve cycling and he noticed that certain magazines work better than others. But I think the consensus from both of us is that the summit has been a great rifle in theory, but a disappointment in practice.

I have a Summit that had the action upgraded and a stainless steel match barrel installed by Volquartsen. The rifle originally had their carbon fiber barrel. Never really liked the carbon fiber barrel. Accuracy wasn’t that great and feeding was terrible. Sent the barrel action back to Volquartsen and they changed the barrel, fitted everything and it worked fine after that. The gun was originally bought as parts so Volquartsen did not do the initial installation. I decided what I really wanted was a match stainless steel barrel. When I sent it back for rebarreling they upgraded the receiver at the same time. When I got it back accuracy and feeding were top notch. I requested a match chamber and it is tight along with a headspace for Eley. If a 10/22 trigger could ever match a true Remington 700 match trigger it would hold its own against any rifle in NRL. Before you ask for a true match chamber setup for Eley be prepared to have to clean the chamber every time you change ammo or you will have stuck cases in the chamber. I have other match guns setup like this and they have the same issue but I am willing to put up with cleaning the chamber because the accuracy is so good.

I took the carbon fiber barrel off and put a Ruger LVT barrel on mine. It fed just as good as the Volquartsen barrel. The Volquartsen does have a small feed ramp machined into their barrel. Did you order the barrel for a Summit or 10/22? The only difference should be the feed ramp.

Good luck and let us know how the new barrel shoots.

Reviving an old thread… not much info out there on these actions. I’m the owner of an OG Summit T3 barreled action from PWS. I got it back in the day, years ago. Always been a fun pinker with a can and subs. I’m working it over now, trying to extract every bit of accuracy out of it I can. I’ve always shot CCI Subs out of it, minute of Soup Can good. Busts tree rats just fine… but, never got into shooting groups with it. Now, that’s changed. I have started a thread on my project on here… don’t want to cross thread anything. Look me up and follow my journey if interested.

Mine is the original, I know Volquartsen is dong the Summit in Stainless Steel now, that may be a better option, but as stated, not much content out there on this action.

I love the thing… a very fun gun.. but, I will throw money and time at it, until I reach all it can do… then, it will be the work mule for when the kids visit, or for company to shoot when we are playing.

Cheers!
