Factory Benchrest, and Unlimited Benchrest Rules

All are welcome to shoot, and encouraged to improve their scores each month. It is anticipated that shooters may never get to the 50-yard point. It is very difficult to achieve a 2500 target at 25-yards due to equipment, ammo, weather or skill level. It is deceptively hard to shoot 25 shots inside 0.50” circle (about a 0.25” ctc group). But please join in with us to have a good time. You may also learn something along the way and improve your shooting.

Please do not bend the rules, the only one you will be cheating will be yourself. We award no prizes here. We do allow bragging rights though.

Factory Benchrest Rules (NOT the same as ARA) (Everyone starts at 25-Yards)

#1 Everyone starts out at 25 yds. Once they shoot a 2500 target at 25 yds they then advance to 50-yards.
#2 Any factory gun
#3 Factory barrel (no barrel setbacks but recrown is OK )
#4 Factory stock (no weight added to stock and no glass or pillar bedding)
#5 Factory trigger (spring change and smoothing trigger up is OK, replaced trigger is not)
#6 Any type of action
#7 Any 22LR ammo that is factory loaded (commercially sold)
#8 Any type of sights
#9 No one piece rest, a Bipod is OK, bag riders are ok. The front and rear rest must remain unattached.
#10 No tuner

Unlimited Rules (Everyone starts at 25-Yards)
#1 As above, everyone starts out at 25 yds. Once they shoot a 2500 target at 25 yds they then advance to 50-yards.
#2 No other rules. Yes, that means you can use a 1 piece rest!

Targets

ARA Unlimited targets are the official target. One can use the downloadable one here as well. You will probably have to tweak the downloadable one setting at printing. The inner bull should be 0.50" from outer edge to outer edge.

RFC ARA STYLE.pdf

Scoring

These are scored using ARA worst edge rules. Unlimited sighters, and no time limit here. One shot per bull for 25 bulls. The score is based off a 0.224” bullet hole. Plugs are available commercially, but if you do not have one an unfired round can be used in its place (bullet). Note, all residual holes in targets are smaller than 0.224 as they shrink after the shot. As such, close calls should be “plugged” to check the score.

The general scoring guidelines is below, with any outer edge (worst edge) of a shot breaking outside the outer edge of a blue line scoring lower. The exception being that to score 10 the full width of the blue line must be broken.

Image

Example of discerning a 50 from 25. The blue of the 25-ring is not broken.

Image

Example of differentiating a 100 from 50. Though very close there is still amount of blue from the 100-ring showing.

Hi,
I am twitchy with anticipation to possibly add another match to my schedule!
My question is my home range is indoors, would I be allowed to compete?
Thanks

Anschutz 1761 at 50-Yards ARA Unlimited Target
Rimfire Central 25/50 Unlimited Challenge

Gman47564 is already killing me!

drpietrzak
50-Yards
Rifle – Anschutz 1761 MSR Silhouette
Class: Factory
Ammo: Lapua Long Range
Optic: Vector Minotaur 12 to 60 x 60
Front Rest: Bald Eagle Front Rest with Sinclair Bag Rider
Rear: Protektor #13 Rear Bag and Custom Bag Rider

Score 2050 7x

The weather was 70 degrees Fahrenheit with about 60% humidity. The wind was intermittent and varied from 0 to 10 mph. The rifle is in its stock form, and there are no tweaks to the gun.

I had 2 other cards that were 1800 03x. If I have time I will get those posted later.

The fine print! (Video)

Yeah, the Missus walked breakfast out to me. Luckily after I shot that card and switched to 100 yards.
She brought a coffee out a half hour later...life is indeed good at times
Of course, I'm paying for it now, watching her shopping for clothes. :ROFLMAO:

You did good blue mule.. I would have been more focused on that breakfast setting there and would have been lucky to get a 500.. lol
And having breakfast served as well.., life is good, indeed. (y)

I just bought a H&R M12 from the CMP SS last Thursday. The barreled receiver was in a crate of primarily Win 52 BR's. The H&R stock only 22 in the rack. For a total investment of 175 it came home with me. Never owned a H&R previously. Is the scope mount on yours the same as offered for a Win 52 or is the H&R screw spacing different. Trigger pull is slightly over 1#. I'll try it this month.
Mine cleaned up well.

In recent months CMP has opened crates of 40x's and Win 52 with a few others thrown in. Digging through the pile is fun.

1. Factory - 50 yards
2. MUP (Steve)
3. CZ MTR Varmint
4. Lapua
5. Score - 1925 - 10X
6. Harris bipod
7. Protektor rear bag
8. Outdoors at my buddy's house, shooting thru flames and smoke, and severe heat mirage.
9.) Excuses: Shooting thru flames and smoke and severe heat mirage LOL

He was burning brush on his property and asked me to come out and shoot today, but the brush fire was between the bench and the target, just off to the side. At times I could not even see to make out a target even from the heat mirage that would sweep over from the side off and on. So shooting conditions were sketchy at best 😬

All close edges were plugged.

Started out this morning with high hopes again. Cold bore, 5 shots, all inside middle.

1.) Unlimited, 25-yards
2.) Sav93
3.) T1X
4.)Tac-22
5.)2050-8x
6.) Bipod on front
7.) Protector #13 rear bag
8.) 6mph Wind ; Temp was 83*F
9.) Excuses: Factory Tikka w/ KalixTeknik CR1 cheek rest and titanium firing pin. No other mods. Santa hasn’t brought expensive match ammo. Must have had torque on rear bag, the three shots out the right, crosshairs landed at POI.

Today could have almost been the day.

You folks have been busy. I got out yesterday and "almost" shot a perfect 25 yard unlimited. I can feel this is going to happen this month. Once again optimism, unchained to any reality keeps me plugging. The slight downside is working the kinks out of this MTR is stealing range time from the CZ/L3I Barrel which is the top 22lr shooter in the stable at this point. Think I recruited a new shooter by lending my Bergara/KI Precision rifle to a friend. He had been teasing me that in our informal backyard competitions the equipment was the difference. Certainly a factor ... now he has no excuse. Which raises an interesting question. I already qualified this Bergara at 25 yards. Does he need to re-qualify? I would guess it is the gun/shooter combo that needs to qualify.

1.) Unlimited 25 yards
2.) HarrocksT
3.) CZ 457 MTR/Criterion Barrel/Athlon Ares scope
4.) Lapua Pistol OSP
5.) 2450 18X
6.) Sinclair Heavy Competition Front
7.) Protektor BumbleBee rear
8.) Beautiful mid 70s intermittent gusty breeze
9.) Excuses: I cant figure what happened on #17. I had a great string going. No real excuses some unknown gremlin sneaked in and snatched the 2500 right out of my bench.

Slightly out of date picture. The Criterion barrel that UPS had misplaced arrived and is installed. Longer than the EAB barrel

2200 - 14X
Caldwell rock and heavy bag rear.
68* slight breeze, just enough to wiggle surveyor tape.
