I have to build both guns from scratch, both guns will cost about $200 difference for just the gun minus accessories, not that big of a deal to me. I will mostly just be doing a lot of any kinda shooting at targets, small animals, anything that moves in the woods, anything that i can get to explode..lol/j/k
I do like the idea that i can change the AR to any cal. I want for longer range and bigger game, and it is not "just a 22". The 10/22 will not doubt be a more accurate 22 but i am not OCD and getting 1/2" groups at 50 yrds just would like to be able to hit what i am aiming at within a reasonable area

so what do yall think?

also kinda curious what the weight of the 2 would be since it would be carried most of the time

Since you're not building a super target 10/22 why would you spend that kind of money for one???

Just my opinion and it's your money but that's just crazy. I'll put my Nemo'ized carbine up against any plinker.

good point on the price vs not a super target build, i had considered taking the KIDD trigger off of that list, that would tip the favor of the 10/22 because now there is a huge price difference. 1600 to about 900 total

I've got one custom, or "ultimate", if you prefer, 10-22, another in progress, a stocker with Hogue stock, Timney trigger, Que bolt, Tech Sights, etc., and they are all fun to shoot, but hands down for plinkin' fun, I like my S&W 15-22 the most. I never thought I would like an AR type 22, but I was wrong, they ARE fun! :bthumb::bthumb:

4. Vortex diamondback 4-12x40 scope……………...…189.00
5. Sig STOPLITE STL-300J……………………………………….164.00
6. Tactical bi-pod…………………………………………………...21.00
7. TAC. Sol. Suppressor…………………………………….…….30.00
8. Sig Sauer mounting rails……………………………………..20.00
9. Magpul Rifle sling……………………………………..……….50.00

Total……………………1104.00

already been down that road, handled one, love the feel of it, but the BIGGEST thing that turned me off from them was the lack of aftermarket parts for it, and that goes for all of them, even just the regular factory parts, so if i have a problem, i have to send it off to get it worked on...not cool:(

After looking at the complete kidd build, that is pretty sweet for about a grand. I wouldn't have to buy a 10/22 if i got that right and what about registering it. Also, would I have to shoot match grade out of it because I have read that shooting regular brick ammo would not do to well in that barrell. I have also calculated it to weight about 7.5lbs or so with a scope, is that to heavy for a backpack rifle?

I have handled both and personally i like the Sig522 a lot better, i have heard they are a lot more reliable as well and i can get one for about 430.00

BTW...for the price of a kidd build, i could build the 10/22 i have listed AND get the sig522 for the same price

My vote (for what it's worth) goes to the AR-15 with a dedicated 22lr upper. One gun that serves all purposes. 223 for varmits, 22lr for plinking, squirrells, rabbits and practice, and a brand new 7.62 covert for deer sized critters. By using the same AR platform for all those caliburs, you will really get to know your rifle well and will learn to be very proficient with it. AND, IF you ever decide you want to SBR it..................you can shorten all the barrels (IF you want) for $200

thats great, yea just throw a wrench in the gears huh...lol, j/k

the only thing i came up with last night about the AR build was that the gun would probably weight in the neighborhood of 8-9.5 pounds, that is really heavy when you are hiking a couple of miles with it, but i could be wrong.
I got the weight of all the pieces but had to guess at the lower with the LPK, tube, grip, and spring at about 2.5lbs or so

I'm with SwampFox. I don't know what else you've got in your "arsenal", but the interchangeability of AR uppers holds a great deal of appeal to me. I (currently - job market sucks for me) personally don't have the $ to put into an AR setup as I'd like.

My FIL bought a S&W .22 and while it's fun to shoot, I bang my head wondering why he didn't go with a "real" lower and a .22 upper to start out with. It's his money though, and I'm just happy to have access to another gun to plink with.

That being said, I bought a used full Kidd built a while back and while I feel I paid a fair price, I can attest they do hold their value well. I'd also say that the accuracy of a full Kidd is beyond what you're looking for. Kind of contradicting myself, Kidd barrels are often reputed for shooting "any" ammo well. You might find some cost/benefit value in that depending on how much you shoot.

I like both rifles and own both (AR is 5.56, but have the conversion kit carrier)...

for all around fun shooting at anything that moves i would say the AR platform, mainly because the only thing I can say negative about the 10/22 in comparison, would be the Magazines.... I hate the 10/22 magazine design for your purpose...

The AR magzine is easier to swap, change, drop etc, and carry... and less awkward feeling...

just my .22 cents

Wow for the prices shown, I bought an AR 15, .22 CMMG bolt, 2mags, and a 10/22. $1143 and change. If you want AR style and function, SW M&P 15/22, mine gets shot more than any other gun I own, over 10,000 rounds now and only a few (maybe 10) hiccups. NOT counting mag loading problems caused by inexperienced loaders, and bad ammo.

If you wanna build a 10/22, save $120 and get an ER Shaw barrel, and another XXX try working on the factory trigger first. hold off on some more parts, until you see how the stock parts work, and save even more.

After much deliberating, the AR will probably not be the best option. I would be to scared to really do much with it for the fear of scratching it or dinging it.
I believe the best option for my needs with going a little overkill(just for the sake of it) would be this

1. KIDD light weight SS black barrel…………………………………….………220.00
2. KIDD bolt(Black)……………………………………………………………………..100.00
3. KIDD receiver(Black)……………………………………………………………….200.00
4. KIDD charging handle(silver)…………………………………………………….35.00
5. KIDD bolt buffer………………………………………………………………………...6.00
6. KIDD single stage trigger(Black)………………………………….…………..235.00
7. Hogue over-molded stock…………………..…………………………….………75.00
8. Mueller 4-16×50AO Sport Dot……………………………………………......209.00
9. Leapers UTG med. 1” Scope rings………………………………………...…….9.00
10. Shooters Ridge Adjustable Bipod 40853(optics planet) ……..…….28.00
11. Blackhawk cheek pad(opticsplanet.com)…………………………………..13.00
12. Sling…………………………………………………………………………………….…..25.00
13. 25 rnd. Ruger mag. 3EA...........…………………………..………………………90.00

Total……….1245.00

simple, clean and super accurate to hit anything i aim at pretty much.
I plan on getting the wife the SIG522 so i would be able to have both worlds

BTW: if you have any ideas or revisements, feel free to devulge

One other consideration when it comes to 10-22 mags would be the Tactical Innovations TI25 mags. Aluminum or composite they have a proven design with great durability and ease of maintenance/cleaning. Also, one other option you may want to consider adding would be the auto bolt lock for the last shot since your going custom.:AR15firin
