I have a high standard pistol that has
US stamped on the left side of the frame and also a 2 on the rear upper side of the grip on the frame. I have seen the US stamped on a few in pictures. But not the 2 or any other number in rear upper of the grip.

This appears to be a S-101 or an O-101 with an Olympic Conversion kit. Factory .22 short pistols would have the serial number stamped in the right side of the slide. A factory installed conversion kit would also usually be serial numbered to the frame. It has the second generation walnut grips for the Lever Name, 100 , or 101 series pistols The early grips were patterned after the standard bakelite grips whid teh second generation grips looked like the walnut grips from the 102, 103, and 104 seies brips but without the brass logo insert.

Your correct, I noticed the slide was un serialized also that's why I thought sombody may have replaced it. Maybe a s-101 to 0 -101 conversion. I read somewhere the US stamp means it was for US shooting team..But I wonder why the 2 on the rear of the grip frame? I did find the serial # on the frame under the slide . Top left edge of frame. Made it a 1954ish made pistol.

Been a while but I was thinking it was 1954. But coulda been 55 or 56 It's been a few days. I don't have any hi standard history books or anything yet. But I saw another one marked US and it was a supermatic, supposedly only had that stamp on them 54-57, was the same type , guy claimed it was from US military shooting team. Idk. That's what brings me here. To find out from people that do know or steer me in the direction of knowledge.

Cool, so now I need to find a s 101 slide. And I'm guessing a supermatic barrel. 6.75" barrel. What sux is the guy that died probably had all.the original parts somewhere. There was stuff laying all thru the estate sale in the house. People were grabbing stuff before I got in there. But I got 4 hi standard pistols. I think there was 5 in all but one got sold before my chance to buy em all..

I did try a 22lr mag but it wouldn't fit in the grip magwell. The 22 short mag fits rite in. So that also seemed odd. Unless it takes a different style mag than what I was tryin in it. That's somthin else I got into..also have an old hd military . I've shot it and it shoots really good.

The .22 short and .22 LR magazines both have the same external dimensions. Ihe most common explaination for a magazine not fitting would be a cadmiuim plated magazine that had developed rust between the inner and outer shells. This s a common occurence for the cadmium plated magazines. Once rusted they are junk. It can happen to the blued magazine but it is extremely rare.

Well on this particular pistol a 22lr magazine will not go into it. Only a 22 short fits. The 22lr mag would have to beat in with a hammer. So?? I bought a triple k 22 short mag for it. But it's junk. Waste o money. It was hanging up before the rounds ever get to the top of the mag. So still in search of an original 22 short 101 magazine. That don't break the bank . I have a 22lr supermatic also if I look at both magwells at bottom of grip I can visually see and then measured the 22lr magwell is longer. So evidently this particular pistol was 22 short designated.. So, I gotta take time and order some books I guess. I got a few shots out of the crappy triple k mag yesterday. Just enough to piss ya off on a hot day. Lol. Also gotta get rid of the LH grips.

Your Supermatic, serial number 725,189, shipped as I said before as a catalog number 9119. Catalog number 9119 is the 6.75" barrel S-101 Supermatic that shipped to the US Government order 2570 on 7/30/1957. This information is taken directly from the High Standard factory serial number log.

All 101 series pistols whether .22 short or .22 LR had the same dimensions for the magazine well and all High Standard lip style magazines whether .22 short or .22 LR will fit.

One potential problem with magazine fit in 101 series pistols is that during the period of your pistol , the magazines were cadmium plated. These magazines have a history of deforming from rust between the inner and outer shells.

One outside possibility is that the grip screws are too long and intrude into the magazine well area but if the Triple K magaine will fir that is not likely.

If you search you will find a lot of commentary about the magazines manufactred by Triple K. If you had done this in advance of buying the Triple K magaizne you might have decided not to make that purchase.

The difference between .22 short and .22 LR magaines is the .22 short magazine has an insert staked inside the inner front shell to account for the difference of length between the two cartridges.

You might be able to get a proper .22 short magazine from Interarms Texas.

I don't think any current books will help with your problem. Books can be a good investment but there are known errors in most High Stadnard books.

I have here 2 mags. But was out of the 22lr hd military same profile and the triple k 22 short mag fits in it but the hd military 22lr will not go into the old supermatic S-101..maybe it's mag specific on the sulermatic and not the hd. But have the visual proof..and ya I did read triple k mags aren't the greatest but it's the only game in town that has them unless you find a $150 used one that may or may nkt work. Maybe why them bastards stole the mags out of these. First Pic ypu can tell.the 22lr magwell is longer on the hd., the mags are same angle. But the hd accepts both mags and s101 o ly accepts the 22 short mag. And the newer style supermatic mags are a whole different style.
