I placed an order for cci standard and found Aguila standard cheaper. My savage mark II loves standard velocity cci and subsonic. Just wondering if I made the right choice seeing how shipping was kind of high. Looking for 1/2”-1” groups at 50yards.

For 1" groups @ 50yd, the Aguila does the job, 90% of the time (in my rifles). The newer Aguila primed stuff doesn't seem to be the same as the older Eley Primed, in my firearms or I got a bad batch. It (Aguila) holds roughly a 3/4" group out of my CZ455, CZ457 MTR, and Kidd barrel 10/22, but the flyers are more random than CCI SV. My anecdote is that "When a CCI flyer hits 3/4" out, my batch of Aquila will throw it 2 inches "

My opinion is that if you're happy with the CCI SV and accept the flyer, then the Aguila will act similarly, just that the miss will be a bit more pronounced. The Aguila also runs faster than CCI SV, some 1100 fps + so my POI is considerably different.

edit: My opinion is also that the Aguila of a couple years ago, was indeed, on-par with CCI SV of the same timeframe; both were excellent inexpensive plinking ammo. The newer batches I've tried, notsomuch. Its still better than many domestic production stuff, I will give it that.

For the money Aguila shoots just as good if not better than CCI in my rifles. I shoot the super extra at 230 yards to break clays and than the fragments themselves. I think you will be surprised, very decent ammo. It is one of 3 brands that I stock up on. CCI and Wolf match being the other two.

Stick with CCI SV

The Aquilla is junk ammo

It does nothing but jam in everyone of my pistols

CCI SV runs flawless!
Compared to CCI SV, Aguila Ely might be junk.

Depends on what a person wants at this point. As a new shooter, I want practice at about a nickel a round. My average round this year has cost 5.7cents including tax and shipping. That's Aguila, Winchester and Remington.

For me the Aguila works fine in my TX22 and 10/22. Both firearms have a reputation for taking almost any kind of ammo which is why I chose them.

Would love to be at the level of this forum with one inch groups at 50 yards. When I get better, it will probably cost more.

PS heard that Aguila dropped the Eley and went with the name Ely for their primer. Said that they didn't want to advertise for Eley anymore.

I have found both HV and SV versions of both brands of ammo to give about the same results. I see the main differences as cost and smell. I wonder what the Mexicans are mixing in to get that smell but I won’t speculate here. I have had no feeding Issues or failures to fIre with either brand out of the several hundred rounds of each I have fired this year. The only thing I have found is that the new CCI-SV Is slightly less accurate than the older ammo I was using.

The Aguila is Ely primed, like the fancy ammo. Thats what the unique smell is. Both are cheap ammo, so sometimes , most times , you get a good enough lot, sometimes not. Now with lines running full capacity to meet increased demand, probably less qc, mor bad lots. The last cci sv i bought was bad, so much wax the bullets wont drop out of the plastic tray. It shoots poorly. Im going to leave it the sun heat , hopefully the excess Wax melts off.

The Aquila Sv is a little hotter/ faster than the CCI sv, given choice At the same price im more likely to Buy the CCI, but at $20 vs $25 a brick ill take 5 bricks of Aguila over 4 of CCI.

Ps I havent found it any dirtier. ANd as for group size , a good lot of Aguila shoots as well or better than a good lt of CCI SV. For me thats 4 in one hole and a flyer:D

Having tested ~a dozen lots of CCI SV, I've never had a lot which I felt was significantly under par.

Buying a case of Aguila SV based on postings here, it was no more accurate than typical bulk ammo from Federal - and was less accurate than CCI Blazer @ 50 yrds.
100 yard testing exhibited group sizes at least 50% larger than any other inexpensive SV.
Although subsonic from 20" bbls, it was supersonic out of 16" (of which I have many).
Smelly, dirty, nothing to like about it for my experience; sold off most of the remaining case at a loss.

Aguila

The only experience I've had with it was at an informal match at our club. One of the fellows had some of the Aguila ammo to shoot in the steel match that day.
He had so many FTFire that I loaned him a box of blazer so he could finish the match. Maybe things are better with them now since 2014 but lost any interest in buying it right there.

The new Aguila I got a month ago is 5/8 to 1in at 50 in my guns and it will be my last. The old stuff would scare match ammo in a lot of guns. Still have about 3500 of the good and will miss it when it’s gone. Shot a 5x5 with my 1411 last week .31 average at 50. Shot a 6x5 at 100 with my new B-14r Carbon 1.075 average all shots .837 if not for the one %%% shot.

Which Aguila, SV or HV?

I have a decent stash of CCI SV I bought a few years ago, and a case of Aguila SV I acquired within the last year. The CCI is significantly more accurate than the Aguila. Of course, this could be attributed to lot numbers, etc, as consistency seems to be one thing .22LR manufacturers truly struggle with for some reason. ISO 9000 manufacturing standards are the 'standard' in the industry. .22LR makers seem to be operating at ISO 0009. lol

This being said, the Aguila operates flawlessly in my 10/22's. Functions perfectly with no misfires. Excellent ammo for plinking with the family, practicing offhand, shooting steel, reactive targets, etc. Just don't expect mid-high grade target ammo for $2/box and you'll be fine. :)

I use Aguila almost exclusively in my 10/22, Winchester77, and CZ 452 and Walther pistol. All fire well with good accuracy. CCI Mini-mags and SV sometimes. What I buy depends on price. I don't pay over $5/50 and usually less.

Are Norma, SK, RWS and Eley better? Sometimes not, just more expensive. Are they 1/4 inch more accurate at 100 yards, yeah, but I don't compete, so who cares? But most importantly, what does your pistol/rifle "like?" It makes a big difference.

I have had very good results with CCI SV and Mini mags.I have found the Aquilla does not work in several different 22s both pistol and rifle. If cost is a factor I would buy only 100 rounds of a few different brands before you purchase a brick.

I use CCI SV for practice and SK standard plus for competition.

I have never had a problem with either, so long as the gun is clean. Never really found Aquilla to be dirtier.

Ford vs Chevy

Sounds like Ford vs Chevy debate. Try different ammo and use what works well in your guns and what fits your type of shooting. Its the only way of knowing.
Besides, we all know Toyota makes the best cars and trucks.
