A Nylon 10C I Picked Up Today

My son and I hit a very small gun show this morning in Sidney, Ohio. Slightly disappointed when I walked in as there were a few empty tables. Half way thru (10 minutes), I spied a magazine fed Nylon. Best part was the price - $250 (he wouldn't take a penny less šŸ˜†). So I had to grab it. Came with an all steel USA made B4 Weaver scope shown mounted and a second KMart branded scope. Optics are perfect on both. Rifle is very good condition as well. Got home and put 3 magazines (30 rounds) quick thru it and it ran perfectly. We arrived about 40 minutes after the show opened so kinda surprised the rifle was still there. Barrel code dates to: November 1975.

I bought a magazine off eBay last week for $21 shipped. I don’t get this ā€œthey are hard to findā€. Isn’t this the same mag the 77, 581 and 541 use? You can pay as much as you want to for one, but you don’t have to watch long on eBay to find one for less than $30.

Few people know they made a lever action and a bolt action with plasticky nylon stocks.

Back in the dead hand of the past these rifles were a good deal as you could buy them at Kmart for little more than a song and a dance. Today's prices are a different story since most of the time you can buy a used Ruger 10/22 for way less and the Ruger has a ton of spare parts and custom parts available.

I have toyed with idea to buy a Remington 552 speedmaster but prices are soaring on these as Remington no longer makes these either.

They want $1,300 for this one.

I disassembled (cover, barrel, bolt only) the rifle today to see how it looked on the inside. Dirty to be expected but not too bad. However way too much oil inside so I cleaned that oily grungy particulate mess up. One of the receiver cover screws and the big fat screw underneath that holds the stock to the barrel must have been tightened by Hercules! When I put it all back together, I of course just "snugged" all the screws up, no over tightening. Did a test shoot and all worked as it should. I'm lovin' the rifle!

Back in the 1960's I was walking past my local small town hardware store and thought I might be hallucinating when I saw a Remington rifle that appeared to be maroon in color. Years later I found out it was a 572 lightweight with an aluminum receiver and barrel (which was sleeved). It was called the buckskin tan but when new they looked more maroon until the finish faded into tan.

They also made it in teal wing blue and black.

If I remember correctly the gun only weighed 4 1/2 lbs.

I bought a couple of nylons from K-Mart probably in the late 70s. 10-C cost me $39 and the 66 was $49. Reliable but not bolt gun accurate, so I didn't hang on to them. Also, not real scope friendly either, as the
"receiver" could always shift just a bit over the nylon body of the stock. :cautious:
