A good shooting lot?

On July 16 this week I shot the target shown below. It's outdoors at 100 yards and has three ten-shot groups. The rifle was a V22S, the ammo was 2024 vintage Midas.

The three group average is under .750" with the largest ten shot group under .800", the smallest near .650".

These results might even look good if they were obtained at a testing facility. Is this good ammo or is it an example of luck, 30 consistent consecutive rounds?

Rifle dispersion generally follows a standard bell shaped curve. It takes around 30 rounds to fill in such a curve, and 50 will fill it out nicely. So three 10 shot groups is getting there. I would say this is enough info to indicate this is good ammo for that (very pretty) rifle. If you'll take the image of that target and make a composite 30 shot group that would be even better. Assuming you used the same point of aim for them all.

We can build a composite of the three with just a glance. Something a little different with group two, but still a consistency. I think you have some decent ammo.

Looks very good.👍

This was my Vudoo with SK Long Range Match. Only 5 shot groups but 60 rounds total at 100 yards, wind 8 mph average from 7 o’clock gusts to 12. F-class prone on Warne PRS bipod and rear squeeze bag. This was fired during a match.

The lot of Midas that produced the target shown above is not a very consistent lot. It produces a few small ten-shot 100 yard groups like those in the target but most are not so good. The target shows the results of 30 consecutively consistent rounds. It would be easy to see how such results might help cause misleading conclusions about this lot.

My Vudoo V22S shoots this ammo very much like the other rifles with which I tested it. Last fall one of these rifles even produced a sub-.5" ten-shot group with this ammo, but overall it produces 100 yard ten-shot groups averaging just over an inch. Flyers are not infrequent.

I would say this is a good shooting lot and some very good shooting on your part.

If 100 is as far as you are going to shoot, I would get a case or three.

If you are going to shoot it farther, break out the chronograph and test it further and see how it does at distance.
