77/22 RSI/ International? Updated now finished!

I guess I am late to the party, again, as it always seems that I find myself interested in rifles that are recently made, but already out of production. From what I have learned and read about, these were a run for Lipsey's and made from 2013-2015, a blued/walnut 77/22 with the full stock, in 22 WMR. As I just started looking and have only found 1 on GB, are these around fairly common or are they seldom seen, highly collectible and expensive when found? Appreciate any insight, don't really have my heart set to make me drop nearly 1K on one (GB) and I'd probably just as happy with a CZ FS in WMR - Thanks Bill in MA

They also made a .22LR version in stainless . I have one of each. I don't know how many was produced in each caliber but I don't think it was that many. Maybe someone else might have the answer. I have not seen very many for sale myself. I have about $700.00 each in mine but I've had them a while. It would not surprise me if they are bringing up to a thousand or more. The CZ FS is a very good gun both in looks and function. You would not be disappointed in the CZ at all. I also have two of the 452 FS models. The only thing is both of them are in .22 magnum. One of these days I would like to find one in .22LR. Good luck with your search.

Thank you

I guess info is scarce, I wrote down the Lipsey info and was looking up the model the next day on the computer and now I can't find where I located the Lipsey info! It would be a nice to have and I'll keep my eyes open, but not expecting a reasonably priced one to cross my path anytime soon. Thanks Bill in MA

Like you, I could not find any info about it except for a brief article by Lipsey's

Thanks for the info.....and pics

Appreciate the info and very impressed by the pics in your linked posting. I notice that your 77/22 has a black butt pad, the same as a walnut stocked 10/22 DSP that I picked up over the summer. I have been checking out the Ruger home page and noticed a few special run 10/22s with full stocks, some birch and some walnut stocks, but I think it was a TALO run of walnut stock versions, that actually had a red butt pad like the older Rugers and thought it was a bit nostalgic! I'm in no need of any new rifle, especially rimfire, but I'll keep an eye out for the Lipsey version of the 77/22. If the CZ 455 prices drop, since the 547 is now around, I may look in that direction - Thanks for sharing. Bill in MA

I am happy to share. When I came across the my 77/22m I had the pleasure of looking at both it and a CZ 455 FS in .22mag side by side. Getting to hold both was nice, and I can definitely say that the CZ is chunkier than the Ruger. Overall the 455's stock is meatier, and it has a heavier barrel profile that is also 20" long vs 18.5" on my 77/22m RSI. I would fully expect the CZ to shoot a heck of a lot better than my Ruger!

If you do happen across one of those TALO 77/22s with a red butt pad, please do post a picture or two! I haven't seen one of those yet. If you do decide to buy a CZ 455 FS, don't feel like you are "settling" because they are very nice rifles, both in quality and accuracy.

The Talo version

I just checked Ruger's site and they still have the TALO walnut/blued version listed, it has a model number of 1265. I have checked around, and they must be currently produced, as many sellers have them. Thanks for the "side by side" comparison info. Most of the stores around me would never have enough selection to do so. I don't believe I've ever seen a new CZ of any type around me. With the Ruger having a box mag, I would have assumed that it would have been the "chunkier" of the two vs the CZ, so that is good info to know and I had not noticed the barrel length difference. I'll keep my eyes open - Thanks Bill in MA

I bought a NIB 77/22 RSI in .22M blue/walnut, last fall.
It had been sitting in the rack at my LGS for a couple of years.
The owner was tired of looking at it and wanted it gone. He said a lot of people had looked at it but when they found it was in .22M, handed it back.
I have a soft spot for full length stocks and ended up buying it cheap.
I haven't shot it but plan to in the spring.

Ive had a few stuetzens. Imo, as a European style stalking rifle, long/heavy/chunky, etc. should not characterize it. I would go for the light, trim, quick handling version in the caliber that suits my targets of choice.

Well, I may have joined the club after all!

Gents, I had been looking around, one came up on GB a few weeks ago and sold north of $1200, I had already bowed out at 800, which was my max. Knowing that I could "settle" for a new CZ 455 FS and scope it for less, but I still like the chase/search part. Well I checked in on GB a week later and another was posted with 3 days to close, no bids, starting at $749. Ended last night, with only my bid. Near mint, original mag, box and papers, just missing the original scope rings! I hope to have it here by next week. It will be my first full stock rifle in any caliber.

Already planning ahead, but my thoughts with this one are, a low power variable scope, along the line of a 1-4x, similar to a "shotgun style" scope without the wider objective (1" or 30mm doesn't matter) and mounted in Warne QD rings. Most all my shooting will be 50 yds or less and I like the look of the shorter scope on this style rifle, especially with the qd rings. I'll finish it with a nice 1" leather sling. Any thoughts, opinions or comments on the choices! Thanks Bill in MA

I'm a little late in seeing this, but Congratulations on finding one! Outside of the quick detach rings, that is pretty much the exact same I plan to do with my rifle. I have already picked out the scope, but haven't decided on what style of sling I want to get; its going to be a leather sling, but as for the pattern / style I am not to sure what would look best yet. Have you outfitted your rifle yet?

Sweet!
Id go a 2-7x (ish) x 1", think you can find one in a comparable size to your notion, hopefully in a 'rimfire version so parallax is right for 50yd.
I have never (Never) found more power available to be a detriment.

Here it is!

I hope this works, never attempted to post a pic here before

I just picked it up from my FFL on Sunday. It's minty, original box and paperwork, from the original owner, who said he put maybe a box and a half thru it, just missing the factory rings, which I already had a spare set on hand, anyway. I had this sling awaiting a "host" rifle, so I put it on and took the pic. Apologize for the arm shadow, was a last minute idea for a pic. I think I'd like to try to find a gloss scope, but it appears from some looking around, I'll be on the second hand market for that type. I have a Bushnell 2.5x10-36 rimfire scope on a 77/17 in Warne QD rings (both matte finish) and may swap it onto this one just to see what it looks like. I still think that it would be a "cleaner" look with the smaller scope on this rifle with the gloss blue finish. Thanks Bill in MA

VERY NICE ! How does it shoot?

Imo, a smaller scope looks best on Mannlicher/stalking rifles but I am more of a traditionalist and the classic versions did not have huge scopes. I think I have one foot firmly planted in the past and only dabbing a toe or two of the other into the new century.

Agreed!

I was surprised how light the rifle is, having never picked up a full stock version before. I think that a small variable would be perfect in keeping with the"profile". I have other rimfires, with longer, heavier barrels which are well suited for the larger, higher powered scopes and are set up as such. It's not a must have, but in keeping with the rifle style, I think that QD rings are the way to go for this one. I was toying with the idea of using a receiver/ peep sight, like the NECG, but I already have a very early 22LR RS version, set up with one and I wanted to do something a bit different with this one. Just really started searching, but I very much like the Leupold 1.5-4x20, just wish it was available in polished blue vs matte. I'll have to look into similar styles by other makers and maybe able to find what I'm after or I'll just keep an eye out on the secondary market - Thanks Bill

Update...

I tried the Bushnell 3.5-10X scope from my 77/17 in the Warne QD rings, both have a matte finish. It matched fairly well, so I'm heading in the direction. I wanted to see how the finish matched to the newer rifle. My opinion, the scope is just a bit to big for the rifle and the look I'm after. There is not a big enough selection of affordable(?) gloss finish, smaller scopes on the market. I've seen some older Leupolds 1.5-5X, go for heavy money, but for me this is a range and fun rifle. I just ordered a new Leupold 1-4x20 that comes in matte finish. Tracking down some matte finish Warne rings now. Should make a nice compact package, when all finished. Thanks Bill

Info

22 Banger - It's ironic that you mentioned that, because I did check the Leupold site and noticed that I could custom order the scope, with a few different options (finish, parallax, etc), but the price was getting just too expensive. It would have been nice to keep it all polished blued (scope and rings) but just not cost effective. I really didn't want to drop another near $500, just for a scope and rings, for mostly a range rifle. I was able to find the Leupold for about $170 shipped and found a 2nd hand, but new, set of Warne QD Ruger rings for just north of $60 shipped, last night. I think I did very well on both and look forward to getting them set up on the rifle.

Toomany22s - I have a soft spot for the "less loved" calibers and probably have more 22 Mags than LRs stuffed in the safe. I don't burn thru a ton of ammo when at the range, more of a slow pace enjoyment. Have a good assortment of Mag ammo stocked away and look forward to seeing what works best for this rifle.

STEELSHOOTER - I've had it just over a week, no range time yet, will post when I get to that task. Kind of a Murphy's law type of thing...my days off, it has rained, snowed or busy with the kids. The days I have worked it's been beautiful outside. Definitely looking forward to Spring here!

Appreciate the insight and feedback! - Thanks again Bill in MA

I have both the 22 mag and 22lr. These newer ones with the threaded barrels are much more accurate than the v block rifles. They are no match rifles by any means, but, are fine for hunting. The 22 lr ,with CCI standard velocity, has no problem staying around half an inch. My brother also has a 22 mag. We both sight in at 75 yards because that works out well for our shooting conditions. The mags with CCI at that range shoot 3/4 or a bit less. All three of ours were purchased for about 575 when they were still in production.

Now scoped!

Gents - I took delivery of the new Leupold 1.5-4x20 this afternoon. The rings came in Friday, so I happily put this together a short time ago. I think I'm done, with the exception of maybe some scope caps! I'm definitely happy with the way it turned out with the smaller scope and the qd rings. Once I can get it to the range, I'll sight it in with the irons first and then follow up getting the scope zeroed in. I'm very happy the way it turned out - Thanks Bill in MA
