It all starts innocently enough.. buy a revolver they said, it’ll be fun, it’ll be different.. one won’t hurt..

but then you think if only I had a revolver in another caliber.. or another frame size.. and that will lead down another trail.. then another.. .357, .38, .41 mag, .44 mag, .22, 10mm.. j frame, k frame, L frame, n frame..

And then one day you’ll walk by the used gun counter and you won’t even look at anything besides the revolvers and you’ll realize it’s all over

I started with a 4” 586 and it’s only been downhill from there

Yea THAT rabbit hole. . ..... I'm Colt 1911 fan boy and Smith Wesson fan boy. I like my pistols blue and my revolvers stainless. Don't know why just do. Prices on all the above are 1K + now a days except for J frames . I don't have any Js . Several K/L and N frame. Bought the 617 several years ago. The 648 no dash 6" was considerably more, purchased that last year . I have never gone to a LGS with one gun in mind. I just look at what's in inventory that day. For the most part I buy used. The box would be nice but I'm not purchasing the box just the gun. Well done on your purchase. You have a great brace of revolvers.

Picked up a new 617 awhile back, cylinder timing was off cylinder would not rotate and more. Smith warrantied it, & replaced many parts. Don't know why it left the factory as junk.Should have picked up a older model, not a fan of Smith new production.

I love my 617. It's one of my most-shot guns. I used to shoot a lot and competitively, and I used the 617 as my "understudy" to my 686. It makes a fine target gun, too, so it's versatility is tough to beat.

I used to shoot a lot (and competitively), but after a change in life's priorities (all good), I've barely shot in the last 6-ish years. I recently started getting to the range here and there again, though, and managed to get out today. My 617 was the first thing that made it into my bag. I started off at 10 yards, but with more practice, I'll get back out to 25.
