I shoot 30 grain VMAX rounds at 2250 feet per second in my Mossberg chuckster. I know they make 40 grain rounds that are easily obtainable. I've heard they make 50 grain rounds that run around 1,600 ft per second but I've never seen them for sale. Does anybody know where to get them? And what are the results when shooting game like rabbits with the 50 grain versus the 30 grainers? Do they penetrate more?

Anything will kill a rabbit. Anything! Woodchucks are a different story. I’ve been a big fan of the 22wmr for fifty years. I’ve owned quite a few of them and I’ve hunted a lot of woodchucks with that cartridge. I can tell you for a fact that the 50 shoots very well, but it does NOT perform as well as the 40 grain on woodchucks. With the 50g I have about half of all chucks shot make it to the hole. With the 40g it’s way, way less. Almost all don’t make it to the hole. They simply don’t expand all that well at the reduced velocity. I went back to using the 40g.

If you want to EAT the rabbits, the 50gr bullet is probably a better choice than the 30gr bullet.
I use the 50gr Federal load for shooting fur bearers like foxes or racoons, they make a tiny hole in/out and are pretty effective with a double lung or shoulder shot. The 30gr HP's out in the market are pretty destructive when shooting rabbits and squirrels raiding the garden.
