Sorry about that. 100 yds. prone supported and fired in semi from the mag.
I am going to guess probably sunny and 75 degs with little or no wind. Range is right out my door so I don't shoot unless it's relatively comfortable.

Sounds like fun. I do have a few precision rifles on hand that could be used for this. It's all fun.

I think this is a job for my Savage Stealth in 6.5 CR. Too cold to be laying on the ground for a few days though.

I'd say you've proven the rifle is accurate at 100 yards,
how do you think it'll do at 200 yards, 5 shots, 5 dots, for score?

I like a challenge, don't you?
Gives me something to work towards while I'm at the reloading bench.

About best edge scoring, all you have to do is touch the edge of the higher score ring with the bullet hole
to get the higher value. Nick or touch the center dot you get the 10, obliterate the center dot for the X.

 

I love challenges for sure.
My range goes out to 300 so I can hang a target at 200 no trouble.
Most of my shooting at home is 100 - 150.
Gave up most of the benchrest stuff over 30 years ago. I still shoot some 50 yd benchrest with a built up 10/22 or my Kimber 82G. Only problem with that is my bench is a three legged contraption that is not all that stable hence the prone.

for an "amateur" you sure do inspire; just when i am ready to hibernate, you have me thinking about how to shoot in my basement.

 

Rail guns, barrel block rigs all fall in the purpose built class.
I don't see them as ever being y'er typical factory issue rifle, eh?

I have an overactive imagination and am always wondering "what if"?

Well it's 2 below here right now. Spent all this week with the highest temp getting to 4 all with out the windchill....brrr.

My air rifle is a .25 cal 50 ft lb one, basement may not be the best option. Maybe I can find my boys Red Ryder!!

 

we've got to get a bigger basement.

Your suggestion to post images at "ctrlq.org" piqued my interest, along with this "5-shot challenge." I think I'll be able to post some photos for the first time in many, many months since my PB account went kaput. This post is kind of a test run for me on getting pictures going again!

Challenging Myself
I'm not a shooter that strives for tremendous accuracy, and have limited equipment and resources. I have a Henry Small Game Carbine (SGC, model H001TLP) in .22LR. I do basic target practice, and hope to get out next month for rabbit and/or squirrel hunting.

The Rifle
My SGC lever-action carbine is stock from Henry. Iron sights with the Skinner ghost ring rear sight and a bronze bead front sight. I special-ordered a replacement for the blued ghost ring, and "brightened up" my SGC with a bronze ghost ring. I've had my SGC since March 2016. Here it is:

The Range
I shoot at a homemade range a friend is just starting to build. It's basically his back yard, and I'm creative in finding various distances to shoot at a 6' X 6' target board he has set up. Since these photos were taken, he has added some standalone steel targets also. For longer distance shooting (I can grab about 110 yards max, I simply nail up cardboard homemade targets to his trees. Here is the set up. I'm standing about 60 yards from the target. You can see the square board just to the left of the round black steel target I had hung on the board for practice at this distance:

Of course, as I walk down the hill from this point, I shorten the yardage. For my "5-shot challenge," I have a 4-round target I shot this last 2017 spring with my SGC. I mounted the target at 25 yards. The day was a sunny, pleasant 65* afternoon in May. Very little wind, and sun at my back.

This is a basic 25-meter target design, but I used 25 yards. The target is 2-1/4" in diameter, and the red bull is 3/8" in diameter (notice the dime on #1 target).

I only shoot standing, off hand with all my firearms. I enjoy shooting off hand, and like to challenge myself with this configuration. I used Winchester M-22 40gr CP-RN ammo. This was the first time I tried this target. I've shot my SGC quite a lot since last May, and plan to re-do this 4-target test this spring. Here is my range result:

It was a lot of fun to try this. Yup, I know the "good" result is only 50%. But that's the challenge I have ahead of me.

Hope this "range report" fits in okay into your thread. Like I said, I'm not a shooter going after extremely high accuracy. Just like my homemade challenges!

I know it's not the best time of year to be out attempting accurate shooting, but as I'm just about out of decent rimfire ammo and not willing to put up with
the disappointment of trying to find more, I figure I'd see if the rest of ya'll
might like the opportunity to show off y'er rifles, skills and results with a bit
of friendly competition. 5 shots at 5 individual bullseyes for score. That'll keep
the expense down and give ya'll an excuse to post some pics of rifles and targets,
do a bit of bragging and swap tips to improve results.
I'm thinking best edge scoring and several classes to keep it competitive.

Factory rifles, pillars and bedding allowed, other than that all original.

Factory Modified includes trigger work/replacement, aftermarket barrels or stocks.

Purpose built rifles/custom/benchrest rigs

Bolt actions and semi-autos

Retail ammo and reloads.

The results when posted ought to provide a pretty decent information source
of ammo quality, rifle accuracy and the setups needed for sub-moa precision.

 

PT7, shooting offhand you can pick whatever distance makes you happy.
I am unable to hit anything unless braced on a tree/fence post/shooting stick.
Doesn't matter whether rifle or pistol. Print a few targets to shoot at.
Choose y'er distance, take and make y'er best 5 shots, post the results.

Targets on trees is a chancy situation.
Ya' never can tell when you might turn a tree into a deadfall.

Always fun walking towards y'er target and hearing that cracking/crunching sound.
Never know which way it'll fall.

 

Don't know why, but using a rifle rest on a bench, I shoot really badly. Even with various sights mounted: iron, red dots, scopes (worst for me!). Go figure.

But get me free standing, and free swinging that SGC to aim, and I'm most always pretty well on target with the Skinner ghost ring. Really love shooting off hand! :bthumb:

BTW, I think my friend would like to see more of those trees fall over dead. He told me to use the trees, and he is actually taking some of my "target trees" down to extend his yard and also build a range longer than the existing 110 yards maximum now there. Most always a lumber pile being worked.

10 shots precise shooting at 100 yards

How you'll rate this 10-shot target at 100 yards with RWS R 50 ammo and Martini International Mark 2 rifle. Wind 5 mph 90 degrees from left. Temperature 60 F. Center X is 25 points. By the rules mentioned in this forum the score is 249 out of 250. By our rules (Shuetzen Matches) this target got 247...

 

Ummmm, no....my target has a much smaller scoring zone.

Seriously, print out the 5 bull target, give it a try at 100 yards.
We've used it in the CZ 100 yard challenge, it'll give you a decent workout...
...even with that Martini.

After all, it's only 5 shots at 100 yards, what could it hurt?

Hmmmm..... I wonder if I could do an overlay of your 10 shot group
with the scoring pattern on my target to determine your score?
Let me get back to you....

Nicholas, I used 0.20 inches as the diameter of the bullet holes to reference
then built from there and centered on the target circles to match center.

I see a 10x, 10, 10, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 6, 3 for a 10 shot total of 75-1x

The center dot on my 5 bull target is 0.10 inch diameter
each successive ring outwards is 0.10 inch apart.
5 individual shots, 5 different rifle alignments.
It's like shooting the Green Monster, at 100 and 200 yards, for score

 

Thought this was a non rimfire thread. Isn't this what judges are for?
Way too many ways to score that target.

 

If he thinks he can compete with centerfire at 100 yards plus
and can back it up, he can shoot with a slingshot as long as he meets the rules.
5 individual , consecutive shots for score, along with a pic of the setup
the ammo used, conditions and a pic of the range. If you can produce sub moa
at 100-200 plus yards, consistently, with any projectile launcher, I'm willing to listen.

I went out yesterday for a bit. My wife asked why I was shooting on the coldest day of the year so far. I said "because there's no wind". As it turned out, there was some wind. Bummer. Even if I had wind flags and knew how to use them, it would take a drill to get them in the frozen ground.

So today it's even colder and I'm inclined to go again because there might be less wind. (the forecast show rest of the week will get very windy and equally cold). I'm curious to see her response if I head to the range today.
