I have read about the long gong matches and decided I would like to see what happened with mine. I tried a 10 shot group. I had shot at the gong you can see in the edge of the picture first and a couple shots hit my paper that I didn’t realize. I know one of the way low ones was from before but I am not sure about the ones in the edge of the box. Either way I was surprised it was that good.

I've shot my 457 MTR at a gong at 300 yards, what fun! At our range, the impacts from the bullet don't move the gong, but the RSOs paint the steel everyday so that impacts are visible. Time of flight is long, but pretty satisfying to see impacts.

Try Hornady's shot indicators. We tested them at the club and found they work very well. They respond to the shock on the plate, not slow movement. Jiggle the plate all you want and they don't light, but hit it with a wrench or a bullet and they detect the clank. Visibility at 400 yds was great. Hitting a plate with a 22LR at 400 yds wasn't so easy! For the test, we resorted to a .223 Rem. Still, we've contemplated an ELR22 match if we can figure out how to spot misses. We expect a lot of 'em! We have 500 yd target frames in the butts, but they won't handle plates, so our max range is about 475 yds.

I bought some 2,4,6,and 8", 1/8" thick targets listed for pellet gun and .22. I've tried them once at 200 yards. I can hear and see them move... if I hit them. I can take them out to about 350 at my range. I expect I'll spend a bit of ammo trying to hit them out there.

The range has them on the 400 and 500 yard targets, and they work very well other than some of the spall off of the targets cuts the wires going from the sensor to the lights.
