Nice group. Play a little with ammo and I'm sure you will get a tighter one to show us.

 

My MkII likes Blazers pretty well.

 

Blazers out perform just about ever other brand of ammo in my .22s. Glad I stocked up on it a few years ago.

 

I tried some sk pistol ammo in mine and it loved it, seems my suppressor messes with group sizes somewhat.

 

Mine likes the SK standard

 

SK Standard does good and Pistol Match is even better. Most of the time it’s CCI SV or Aguila.
edited to add mine has a VQ trigger, 2.2#’s. The factory trigger was simply not useable.

 

+1 on the VQ Trigger. Immediately changed the performance and my attitude. Used it in Bullseye matches.

 

The 22/45s I've shot also do quite well on Blazer. The stuff under 1100 fps did not cycle well until the extractor was replaced with a Volquartsen, and in one case a lighter recoil spring. They can be incredibly accurate. Nice shooting !

 

I have had some luck "tuning" the thread protector on the end of the barrel. I have found "medium tight, finger applied, tended to shoot better groups that my 22/45 Lite with the thread protector screwed down tight. It is a fun project to try different ammo and different tensions on the thread protector. One MKIII almost cut it's group size in half by loosening the tension on the barrel nut. When I find a setting that works well I mark the barrel nut and back it off several turns and apply some clear fingernail polish to the threads then re tighten to previous reference point.

I find Blazer ammo to be sneaky good in my rimfire pistols!

 

I found Blazer to be very accurate. Took me a lot of time to figure that out but once I did I focused on just shooting blazer and it got more and more accurate with zero issues.

 

My son loves his. We were getting pretty good shot groups with the Aguila we purchased from CMP a few yrs ago.

 

The best 20 shot 50 yard unsupported target I ever fired with an handgun was with my original series 22/45 4" firing (I kid you not) Federal Auto Match! Must have been an exceptional lot as the next box I tried was like shooting different ammo entirely.

The go to ammo most of the time with my MKIIs , 22/45s , Smith 617s or Model 41 is CCI Std. Vel. Shot some nice targets with the 22/45 and Model 41 last weekend with the CCI. I'll have to try a few targets with Blazer next time in the 22/45.

 

Yeah the VQ trigger/sear eliminated my last excuse for not shooting a good target with the 22/45! Had my 4" out the last few range sessions. Forgot to try the Blazer in it. But it does quite well with CCI Std. Vel.

 

I have determined that my shooting is as good as ever, it’s just that the Xrings are a lot smaller and the targets are always moving around. I was also somewhat surprised to learn that many old people are the same age as me.

 

Browning came up with a tuning system in the 1990’s and Winchester offered it on some of their “Pre-64” Model 70’s at the time. I had it on a .25-06. It shot great, but it was a LONG heavy rifle in the end.

I find that at Steel Challenge Matches the wind is moving the target all over the place. There's nothing wrong with my shootomg/

In my 22/45 CCI Standard and the Eley ammo sold by CMP two or 3 years ago shot good groups and reliably. I was VERY disappointed in Eley Contact - about 1 or 2 cartridges out of a box of 50 wouldn't fire. So I stopped using it in Bullseye matches and just use if for practice ammo.

How does it run accuracy wise with bulk ammo?

 

I mostly use mine in Steel Challenge matches and use bulk ammo for that. But with quality ammunition most 22/45's will shoot quite accurately.

 

I'm impressed by the accuracy of my MKII 5.5 bull bbl stainless. I shoot spent 45 casings off the pin tables for fun with great consistency.

 

I will second what has already been said. With good ammo and a steady hand they are incredibly accurate

 

I just picked up a MK III NIB 22/45 Lite "gold" blem. It is basically silver and not gold ! With a RDS it will shoot RGB's into a 1.25" group at 25 yards. For serious grouping I use CCI SV but this non-gold , gold, is new and needs to be broken in so I will continue to plink with RGBs and switch over to CCI Blazer & SV after it settles in some.
My all around champion Ruger is my MK II Comp Target. With CCI SV it has dotted off multiple 1/2" groups at 50 yards.
BTY I have owned six MK II CTs and this is the one I kept!

 

I have a MK II C/T and it is incredibly accurate and fun to shoot. I am looking at the same in a MK IV mostly for the ease of cleaning.

 

22/45 I bet you a dollar it will not shoot as good as your MKII C/T

 

I don’t want to take that bet! If I get a MK IV you can bet the Gen 2 will still have a home. There is just something about them that everyone likes.

 

Like others have posted, the VQ trigger made a huge difference in shooting my 22/45.
