Nothing new there but this time it connected!

Today I took my last squirrel of the season.
Set my goal at 💯 and needed one more.
I present to you squirrel number 💯.
My season is now officially over.
Been a great one.
I will get back after them next season!

How do you decide what to take hunting with you?

 

It is a difficult decision each time. Some rifles call to me , but this year a made a list of order to make sure some didn't get overlooked. It let's me know I have favorites for sure. It is a blessed problem to have though. I am so fortunate to have so many choices.

 

Doe didn't show, they were there in the timber but didn't come out despite an approach in the dark and a long wait for light.
However a fox came my way and paid dearly. There was three fox's barking in this locality this morning.

So I went back to this small farm plagued with fox's with my 222 and night vision.
It went quiet after four more were shot!
This one was 200yards.

From what I gather, the UK has declared war on the grey squirrel.

Went out yesterday and found a beautiful hardwood creek bottom that I thought would be perfect for an ambush on some squirrels. Despite several nests, I didn't even hear, much less see a squack. I did see a bunch of red headed woodpeckers which was pretty cool as they are much less common than their red bellied counterparts around here.

 

I reckon I'm going to have to start eating possums and raccoons, that's about all I see around here anymore.

 

Saw two, managed to shoot one this afternoon on my patch of woods while carrying the Kimber 22.

 

Love that knife Phil. What Burris are you running on your Kimber? I remember you used to have a Leupold on there.

Man, that's quite a lot of shock! Not a lot of blood to mess up your bag and also everything is intact, making for an easy skinning!

Friday I went out with my 10g muzzeloader for some late season birds.
I missed about four but got four.
Fast birds!

 

50% is a good day on tricky Pheasants. Especially when they run and don't hold pat until flushed. Well done!

What's the ideal range for your 10g? And, do you use your pup to point, flush, just retrieve? A dog can instinctual give chase to a runner then put 'em to flight beyond the shooters effective range.

It's a real joy watching a dog that has learned to be patient with runners work them. Cheers!
