10/22RPFTF - Ruger's new 10/22 with a factory Tactical Stock

I just bought a brand new in box streight from the factory Ruger 10/22 Model 01219 Catalog Order No. 10/22RPFTF that has a TAPCO - RUGER 10/22 T6 Collapsible Stock instead of a standard wooden stock. I had planed to buy a second 10/22 and put one of the Tapco stocks on it but around here in houston a"cheep" 10/22 is about $190 and the Tapco stock on the Internet is $90 plus $15 shipping bringing the total to $280. I walked out the door of the gun shop at $298.97 but having it ready to go and 100% garented by Ruger was worth the extra $20 bucks. I put a BSA Red Dot reflex scope on it and it shot fantastically. If and when I can get pictures to upload I'll post some. Does anyone else have one of these and if so what do you think about it? P.S. I pulled the Volquartsen auto bolt release out of my stock 10/22 and put it in my "Tatical" 10/22.

I made my own auto bolt release for free with a dremel and 5 minutes of my time! I love it! I have a 10/22 in a tapco and love it too. Thats kind of a funny question in this area of RFC. I cant find a $70 tactical style stock I like better?

I have never seen a new in box 10/22 come with a Tapco already installed? Lucky you if you like Tapco.

It is a Tapco. Here it is at GlockWorld.com

They call it "The ultimate tactical rimfire rifle", oh those silly Glock guys!

I think what the world is coming to is that Bill Ruger isn't running the show anymore. Ruger can now make tacti-cool firearms for all of us that like them. If you go on Ruger's site, you'll notice that they're also selling a Mini-14 with an ATI tactical stock right from the factory now. Bill Ruger would be apopletic over something like that.

Just purchased one of these for my son, thought it was a pretty good deal at $298. Shoots well to be straight out of the box. In process of getting a SwampFox built trigger group and having the bolt headspaced. I've read some on here about bedding, barrel floating, and pressure points, are any of those upgrades needed on a plastic stock?

After you've done the SwampFox bit (one of the best things you can do with a stock rifle) I'd send the barrel off to Nemohunter to have it cut back, rechambered, and recrowned. With those two mods alone, you're going to have one that shoots better than 90% of any others you'll see, excepting some of the really tuned-up ones around here. It'll certainly outshoot any other 22 autoloader you're likely to see someone else walking around with on the range.

A newb question but here goes. Just bought one of these today. Iron sights are useless with the straight stock in place. There is a curved stock in the box. Took the two bolts out and can't budge the straight stock. Is there a trick to getting the stock to release so I can change to the curved?

Have my Garrett Optical holo red dot installed but want to see what the iron sights will do. Any help would be appreciated.

Give it a little CLP and let that sucker sit overnight. Then tug it like heck in the morning and it should come free :D I remember once, I had to use a tow strap and my Jeep to seperate my RPK from its buttstock--but it shouldn't come to that if the CLP penetrates deep enough.

Thanks for the replies. DID tug like heck but didn't have a jeep to do the pulling. Did finally manage to get it pulled out far enough to get two screwdriver blades under the neck (lined up opposite of each other) and managed to pry it out without damaging it. Once I got it out I tried the curved stock and it was super tight as well. Sanded all parting lines from the molds and inside the stock; went together with only a few cuss words. Much better now. Took it out today and sighted in a red dot at 25 yds-on the money-and will move to 50 on Sunday when I go back. Think it will be a keeper.

It comes with a 2nd "drop" stock, for use with the stock irons. The factory installed straight-stock seems to imply the expectation of optics for most purchasers.

I bought mine to use for cheap practice. .22LR is cheaper than anything the AR / FAL eats. With the installation of Tech-sights, you've got the same sight picture / pistol grip feel as the AR / FAL.

Most AR style flip up (or BUIS as most call them) are usually designed to sit high enough to use with a straight stock if you like shooting with just iron sights and no optics. Thats currently how I have mine setup, for now.
