You guys sure know this one by heart, surprised no one has mentioned that this movie received a MAJOR award.
Have any of you noticed the blooper in which Ralphie runs off with his new Red Ryder with the loading port wide open? All those bb's, all over the floor. That's the type of loading gate mine had as a kid, sure brought back memories. Delightful movie, definitely one for the permanent home library.

And a kid in the classroom is wearing a Dukes of Hazzard watch...

I, for one, Salute You:t
The Cell Phone is the single most powerful entity that will destroy the family unit as our generation remembered it.
The day that both parents had to work was the pivotal point in the family unit's decline leading to unheard of divorce statistics.
I remember the phrase . . ."a microwave in every home"
How about a real fireplace in every home?

After watching this movie 24 hours every Christmas for several years I had a plan! My 12yr old son already had a Savage MkII .22 bolt action. But the LEVER ACTION draw was just too much. So I looked around the gunshops I frequent and one had a .22 Henry Youth. At that time my son was in between a youth or adult. I picked up this shorty and it was love. just like a couple Marlin and Winchester "trappers" I own. Well I got it. Early Christmas morn I placed the wrapped box behind a book shelf in the living room. After the presents were opened, brunch was ate, fire softly crackling in the fire place, a glass of wine, and the 4th repeate of "The Christmas Story" My son was sitting on the floor. When the father asked Ralphie what was in the corner I asked my son. He did a double take and asked "What"? I said '"Hey, look over in the corner". "What"? He got up and almost too the movie he went over and found the Henry. Honest to God story. That was 4 years ago.:)

Yeah, I used that "Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas?" line at the end of unwrapping presents, too (this year).
I waited a little bit and pulled out the last gift. It wasn't a shooter, but it was something she was prayerfully petitioning for most of the year.;)

The cool thing about my Daisy BB gun was the Pledge of Safety molded on to the plastic buttplate:
"I pledge myself to protect people, animals and property in my community by always aiming and shooting my rifle safely"
I always took that Pledge seriously, and would give a world to have that particular gun back and like new--I carried and shot mine till it literally fell apart one day, just plain worn out. My mom would drop me off on the edge of town with my Daisy (the woods were not very far from our house), a little satchel backpack with a sandwich and something to drink, and my pockets full of those old clear serrated-edged plastic tear-with-teeth Daisy BB packets, and I would just walk into the woods and go on my own safari. Wouldn't come home till I ran out of ammo.
What a great time that was.
