My name is Mark Outler and I am new to the forum. I own a Pawn Shop and Gun Store in NW Metro Atlanta, GA.

I recently purchased a Remngton 597, 17 HMR, and found out about the recall from several years ago.

After contacting Remington, they were quick to let me know, they were not responsible for honoring the recall. They said they purchased the assets of Remington Outdoors and would not be honoring the previous recalls. What a disappointment.

Any suggestions what to do now?

Hi Mark welcome to Rimfire Central!

I may get hooted down on this but if it were mine I'd take it out in the shop and cut it into little pieces on a bandsaw and scrap it rather than taking a chance on hurting myself or someone else.

Lots of reading here including comments by an original Remington factory man.

I'm going to move this over to our Remington 597 forum hoping you'll get more answers.

Sorry for your troubles!

I bought a 597 in 17 HMR today. I plan on getting another Jarvis 597 barrel in 22 wmr when they make the next run of barrels. I put my name on the notification list. BTW I purchased 2 of the 22LR barrels and have 1 installed and planning on doing the second soon. My suggestion would be to rebarrel in 22 WMR with a Jarvis barrel.

you can get instructions on adding your name on the waitlist here

This wasn’t a Remington only issue, Ruger and others recalled all the 17hmr semi autos, I have one I converted to a 22mag from Jarvis and she’s a beaut. there is a link below to the parts shop that has all the old inventory. They sell on gunbroker as well.

Use this barrel if your receiver has the front groove for the Remington heavy barrels

This is the normal sporter barrel, it fits all receivers
