Updated Brno table

Thanks to our friends Denny and Dancz, I was able to get some more information on the Brno #4 target rifles, and make it more complete. As well as learn there is yet another model, the Biatholon! So I updated the table and have included it here - the old thread was getting hard to find. If qualified by administrators, the table may be considered possible 'sticky' material.

P.S. - I had to do some reformatting. If the improvements are too hard to read - sing it out loud pilgrim. And if content is incorrect, please let me know. I'm snatching all kinds of information from sources here, so typos / recollections are bound to happen. No offense intended for any mistakes shown - its a work in progress. See Page 3 for updated table

Hey J.R.,

Just one correction that I see needs to be made in your list. The 456 LK (Lauf Kurz) came also as a shorter barreled (rarer) version of the #4, specifically designed for the Scandinavian countries...i.e., the biathlon crowd did not like having a rifle with a barrel that was so long that it's barrel protruded above their head while skiing. The barrel length on the LK variation can be the standard 27.5 " or a shorter 25". The shorter barreled guns tend to be a bit more accurate due to their stiffer barrel profile. One of my #4's is in the LK 25" variation with a beech "Anschutz" style stock with ventilated forearm. Brnomann was the source of this info when I inquired about the shorter barrel on a new acquisition that I was about to make. As always, "Thank You" Denny for your wealth of information and your willingness to share it with the rest of us and "Thank You" J.R. for putting this info together for all to share.

Your welcome folks - all in the 'name of science', right?

Thanks Bubba45 - I didn't know about that extra barrel length (25") - I will correct and update the table. The spring tension barrel tuning kits were available for both #3s and #4s, I think. A #4 stock I have came with this same kit.

Any more changes? Sing it out folks. :)

Hey dumac,

I haven't quite gotten this picture upload thingy down pat yet, but I'm working on it. Got a new camera recently...I should be able to get something on here in a short time. Nice looking stocks, standard beechwood, light colored like most of the Brno's of that period.

dumac,

That they do. The vent slots are machined through on both sides of the stock. When you hold the stock horizontally you can look all the way through the stock and you can see under the bottom of the barrel as it rests in the barrel channel. Never shot either of them fast enough to heat the barrel up...don't know if that's possible without a couple of hundred mags loaded and at the ready. Nice feature but I consider it more "show" than functional.

Mansoura?

Hey, great job on the BRNO table.

I recently joined the BRNO fold and I have a question about the Mansoura info listed on the sticky.

I understood that the Mansoura is a #2 made under license in Egypt rather than a #5. Anybody?

Thanks,

Glenn

ps - pics are coming, the stock on the Mansoura isn't ready for prime time yet, it'll be another week or 10 days.

Contact TOU or Brnomann - they can explain it, with many details. Here is a thread which may help.

If Brno didn't really make the 511's maybe the Updated Brno table will have to be changed again. Funny how it says Brno Arms on some of the 511 barrels.

EDIT: Thanks for the valuable information Denny! http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1400112&postcount=25

The Brno 611 was made from 1994 onwards so wouldn't they also be CZ made?

It also says in the Updated Brno table that the Brno 456 (#4) was Manufactured 1957 - 1973 but my #4 is proofed 56

Updated Brno table due to information found on CZ / Brno 452 - 2E and 451 ZOM:
Brno / CZUB 452-2E / LUX
Transition of Brno 452 manufactured by CZ. Manufactured between 1968 -1972, these were the first Brno designed rifles manufactured by CZ, when rimfire / centerfires were switched over to CZ Brod. Very similar to original Brno rifles - latter made CZ manufactured had other changes.
Also when the rimfire / centerfires were switched over to CZ Brod there were some Brno Model 2's (not 2-E) assembled with both CZ/Brno parts. These seem to have a 3/8 dovetail instead of the 16mm size the Brno #1-5's had. I have one proofed 74 with the Brno trademark letter Z in rifling. I believe that when CZ put together these Model 2's in the late 60's early 70's that was a strong influence to making the 2-E and future CZ's that bear a strong resemblance to the older Brno Model 2's, even to this day. I believe these Hybrids should be added to the table. They do have the Brno tradmark after all!!! I'm not sure if CZ built these hybids before or during the time they also started putting together their own 2-E.
According to Denny Brno arms transferred rimfire and centerfire rifles to Cz in 1968-1972

Brno 611??

Manitoban....I'll try to handle your "611" question...I understand that all the bolt action rifles (and the 511 clone of the Brno 581) were transfered to CZ (by government decree, I believe). Brno held on to the 611, the shotgun/combo rifles, and came out with the 611A and 617 shortly before the company's demize.

From what I've heard and read, that seemed to be a common problem with the early models. Something about an improper designed part that caused this. The last models (again, what I've read) were told that the 617 was now correct.

Then to celebrate - they closed the factory. :(

I paid $400 for mine last year from the EE on CanadianGunNutz and all that was missing was the rear ramp sight. I got that sight from brnomann so now the gun is complete!

What to do with a model 3S

I have a nice Brno #3s with correct front and rear sights, double set trigger, and barrel tuner, like new condition. I would be interested in selling this piece, as my major interest is in S&W revolvers, and falling block rifles. Any suggestions on the best way to market a piece like this.
