Go to Winchester's website they offer owners manuals for many out of production firearms. I got a manual for a 250 22mag lever action. They might be able to help you.

Good luck, Ray

PS, If they can't help you PM me I think I have a gun magazine with an article on the 490

Thanks for the information. I did call Winchester and got Browning. After a long wait, a nice lady told me that she had a photo copy of a manual and that she would send me a copy of the copy. Thats good news since it isn't obvious how the bolt and bore are accessed for cleaning. I would appreciate getting a copy of the magazine article on the 490. Mine is in mint condition and looks very "classy" for an inexpensive rifle.

I found the magazine this morning, it is an Oct. '75 copy of Shooting Times. The Model 490 was $110 dollars then (a 9422 cost $149.99). PM me your mailing address and I'll send it to you.

Ray

PS Winchester and Browning are owned by the same corporation.
