I Have a 16.5-inch Lija .9 diameter barrel. I put a Harrell tactical tuner on it. Because it looks cool. And decided to try and tune it this morning. I am looking deeply at the tea leaves on the results and I do not see anything.

The top row is gross dial adjustments, the second row is finer adjustments but still full rotation. All are ten-shot groups. I measured the MOA. As well as the width and height. My expectation would be I should start to see somewhere that the group Starts to flatten. What I see is. Nothing. I will run this test again. I have used it before on a much longer thinner barrel with dramatic results. But on this barrel. The correct tune appears to be. Use better quality ammo

And just to be clear. No I'm casting no shade on tuners or Harrel, I have had great results with tuners on other barrels. just turns out short thick barrels do not tune well. Still looks cool.

How did those ammos shoot prior to the tuner?
The SK standard plus that I tried to tune for shot exactly the same without the tuner. Oddly the SK pistol match special shot considerably better than last time I shot it. So either I magically and by blind luck tuned the barrel for that ammo, or far more likely since it is a new barrel and it's been 300 rounds since I last tried pistol match the barrel is settling in nicely. I honestly don't know. I've been thinking about it all day.

As I recall, the last time I was setting a tuner I already had a ammo that was performing very well before I even had the tuner on the rifle.

I don't know what a Harrell's Tactical Tuner is but I have their standard looking black model mounted on a 20.5" MTR barrel and my best 5 shot group so far using SK PMS has been a .144 @ 50 yards with a setting of 328 on a lite wind day. If I can get a no wind/calm day, I believe the rifle is capable of a sub .120 or less.

I think this is the one he is talking about. It worked on my Ruger Rimfire Precision Rifle, but not so well on a Bergara. I use Harrell's clamp on tuner. Radial Ported Tuner Brakes

Close it is the other model not the radial ported.

We put one on my buddies ruger precision rimfire and it works great. And the Harrel slip on rim fire tuner worked great on my factory mtr barrel. I'm just not seeing a huge difference on this barrel in particular. Still shoots great. Just I don't see the tuner tuning much if at all.

That’s so pretty looking and I have the same one. And came to the same conclusion, 16.5” heavy barrels don’t need a tuner. Now to trade tuner for better ammo.

This is not apples to apples by any stretch but my Varmint MTR's do not need a tuner, however my 457 American Synthetic's pencil barrel accuracy will definitely improve with one. For kicks and giggles I mounted a cheap LimbSaver harmonic dampener on it and experienced this before and after the LS with Norma Tac-22 @ 50 yrds.

I wonder how that American barrel would do if it was cut to 16.5". Or CZ offered a carbine for hunters?

I though everyone on this forum loved the lux, flux and ultra deluxe with the multi purpose fishing rod length barrels. What happened, and where did you come from? Finally!!

Great post.

Thanks, it does work. Yeah several members here state the longer barrels are accurate but they would be tough walking through the woods and underbrush here while squirrel hunting. I understand CZ may be offering a Varmint Synthetic here in the states soon CZ 457 VARMINT SYNTHETIC . Already having the American Synthetic I am really tempted to try one or the other of these barrels on mine when they become available CZ MTR BARREL SET 457 22LR 16IN SR or CZ VARMINT BARREL SET 457 22LR 16IN SR or CZ VARMINT BARREL SET 457 22LR 20IN or CZ MTR BARREL SET 457 22LR 20IN NITRIDE or CZ LONG RANGE MTR BBL SET 22LR 20IN SR . The CZ American Synthetic stock's barrel channel appears to be over sized to accommodate the heavy barrels.

Office equipment Bumper Automotive exterior Gas Grille

I don't do a excess amount of walking when hunting and prop against a tree when I shoot anyway so the extra weight shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I like wood, but if CZ offered a carbine barrel in the American stock it would look wierd. CZ stretched the foram out longer when then transitioned from the 455 American to 457 American. If I could wave a magic wand, CZ would offer a 457 configured like the 527 carbine. Sleek stock, short barrel with adult LOP. And for my use, it would have to be a 22mag.

Lucky for me, I have enough. I can sit back and be critical.

If the scout was offered in 22mag, I could compromise and look at synthetic stocks. That has not happend in the last 40 years, I dont expect that will ever be offered. And no way, I am assembling a 22mag hunting rifle, one peice at a time. Just another dead end idea.

you may want to consider experimenting with a barrel pad, it's possible you could get similar results and it would be a lot easier on the eyes than the Limbsaver. A lot of people are finding success with the pads. You can experiment temporary pads using business cards or thin plastic strips just to see before committing to epoxy

Good idea, when CZ transitioned away from the 452, they floated the barrels. That results in a lot of unsupported steel. I bedded my 455 and added a support pad up front. My 452 and 453 worked right out of the box. Thank you CZ.

I have also read that some have had success with bicycle inner tubes but the Limb Saver is not really bothering me and works. My range buddy had a chuckle when he saw me put it on my rifle barrel but sulked at the results after my groups were tighter than his CZ452. I chalked it down as the old saying "he who laughs last, laughs best".;)
I don't even plan on the epoxy route although many do.

I put an Eric Cortina V2 tuner on my 16.5 inch 457 VPT MTR and groups with Lapua X-Act tightened. It shot well without the tuner with that ammo. I don't remember the group sizes before or after but the tuner did have an effect with that ammo.
