http://www.rifle-stocks.com/ has the stock you are speaking of................(have one on its way to me......)

:D

Also check the Marlin galleries.......Viper has a really purty blue one posted. http://www.rimfirecentral.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5
How hard is it to finish those things? I'd love to get one, but if I'm not sure I can effectively finish it myself, I might think otherwise.
Have no idea on the finishing..........but will let you know. Have the steel wool, sand paper, dowel's, more sand paper, oil, soft cotton rags, chisels, cooping saw, socket, shop full of wood working tools, hummm must of forgot something here.......... oh ya.........a bucket full of elbow grease.......;)
Wildcat Stock for Marlin 17VS

I recently ordered one for someone that has asked me to do the finish work for them from Richards Micro-fit. The ones that I have done in the past only required sanding to finish, smoothing the barrel channel to fit the barrel and the finish coating. A B & D Mouse sander and some sand paper will get you through the process. Birchwood-Casey's Tru-Oil works fine for the finish work.
Happy Sanding...............

Ted has had better luck than myself on these.

My Electric Blue Wildcat required inletting all around the receiver to make it fit.

Maybe they have tweaked the pattern some.....?

I know that mine was the 3rd one off the "production line", right after MarinePMI's, so maybe they are making them more of a close-fit than before!

Either way, good luck with it!
The laminated version won't need any kind of stain, will it? Maybe just some lacquer?

I bought Viper's second stock. Its a Wildcat desert sunset. I like it. But my Marlin 17 (after the barrel channel was sanded out to accept the Marlin's barrel) dropped in like a glove. Had no sanding or any work needed to be done in receiver area. yaaahooo.

Robbob: As far as the finish you are the judge of that. Mine is going to get a hand rubbed oil finish. That way I can finish it off with more oil later. No lacquer to remove. Plus after you finish with oil you can add some fine paste wax to it, to give it a high gloss or semi-gloss.
Mine was also drop in after the barrel channel was opened up. I have yet to put the finnish on, not sure about oil ? as it may change the dyed colors in the wood. Most oils I'v seen were amber in color and when built up will darken the wood. Any Input here???? I went with blue also.

POOF I did use oil on my stock. It did darken it a lot. But that was the effect that I wanted. After using the oil and then letting it dry, I put a high grade funiture wax on it. Man did it buff out nice. BUT.........I sure found the areas that needed more sanding. Could see some of the original saw marks from the mfg. But that is why I went to oil and wax. Can just sand again, and again, and add more oil and wax. No laq. finish that I have to sand off before I can get to the wood. One thing I did find out was that the hole that was drilled for the bolt to hold the barrel down, was off center. I kept sanding the barrel channel with no effect (the barrel was going to one side of the stock). Finally looked really close as I put the barrel in and found the problem. Had to fill and redrill. Looks pretty nice now.....Now if the dang scope rings would come in...........(sigh) more waiting....
