What is this spring?

OK, I feel kinda dumb.

I have an old Brimstone reworked trigger laying around disassembled.

Was looking at putting it back together and opened up the parts and I cannot remember what this spring is for! The spring in the red box.

The other coil spring by the trigger is the new trigger return spring Brimstone installed, but what is this other one for? Is this some random part that made its way into my trigger parts can or actually something that needs to be installed?

It sure looks like it's also a torsion return spring, but maybe it's just the spring that the trigger OEM supplied Brimstone with, and Brimstone sent it along when they sent the trigger back to me?

I don't see an OEM Ruger plunger & return spring, so deductive logic says that's a torsion style trigger return spring.

That's my guess as well... but that smaller "one loop" spring to the left of the trigger is the one that Brimstone uses as a return spring... I guess I just had an extra return spring work its way into my parts tin somehow. Which is odd since I've never purchased one of those.
That is weird. Plus, that trigger shoe looks like an old aftermarket RT.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will come along. It's been many years since I did torsion spring mods on OEM triggers. Once I found Kidd, I installed them in all my current customs.

I think you are right, it's "extra".

Darn, I think you're right.

A standard part of a 10/22 trigger.
Man, I've dis and re-assembled a bazillion 10/22 triggers and I cannot believe I completely forgot about this.

Embarrassed to say the least.

Whan Rimfire Tech was in business, they at first used the OEM bolt stop spring with the legs trimmed as the torsion return spring, actually better than the spring they later made and the spring shown in your picture sitting by the trigger shoe, which is the return spring in your trigger group. I know because I have one too by Brimstone. I have also done several myself with the old RT kit, all work fine. I use the OEM spring as the return in all of them.

The little spring is the trigger return and the bigger spring be is the plunger/bolt hold open spring.
There are two torsional springs in the picture.

True, but the one inside the red square is clearly the bolt stop spring.
Oh so it's all back together. Have a sweet backup trigger group now. Honestly it feels much better than I remember it before I took it apart; perhaps it was lacking some grease previously. I'd say it's about 75% as good a pull as my Kidd 2 stage, which is pretty darn good.
