My grandfather passed away last year and left me some rifles.
I'm very exited about the BRNO .22
What I want to know is what to do to find out what model it is ?
How can I get more detail about my rifle?
(I'm still waiting for my licenses so I can't take it to a gunsmith)

I don’t know much about these but do you know the history on it. How long has it been in the family? Looks like it has lots of history. It’s cool to get things from family that they used and relied on for many years.
We have my grandpa’s .22 bolt action from late 20’s, if that gun could talk.
Enjoy it. Cool gun.

Welcome to RFC from South Carolina.

A heirloom passed down in the family is a gem. It will always have more an emotional attachment that one recently bought can ever have.

Congrats!

GMD1950 is likely spot-on. The heavy profile stock with straight butt plate will likely date it to 1957. Butt plate should be checkered steel. They came in Beech with no grip checkering or in Walnut like yours. If the bore is good, I would predict it to be very accurate.

All got from my grandfather is a bald head.
You got that from your mom. The baldness gene is carried and passed on by women.

My mother's dad was hairy, and my dad's dad was bald. I know I'll never have to worry about losing my hair.

Same.

Oh wait, there was that 1903 Springfield and the Winchester 61. I guess that makes up for the bald head.

Any numbers on it anywhere? Did they put numbers on them in the ’old’ days?

Same in my family, yet that paternal gene is attempting to show itself.

Nice old rifle and hope its a shooter.

I take after dad including his hair or lack of it, and his temperment according to the critical spousal unit of 40yrs.. First unit only lasted 5yrs..

Proud of youse guys... good thread drift.

The rifles are all held by the executor of my grandfathers will (stored at a gun shop), I only have these photos at the moment.
Will get them when my licenses' are approved (In South Africa this takes a few months)
Will post more photos when I do get the rifle back.

Two questions. First what flag is that?

And if you look around, perhaps the other side here, you may see a 2 digit date

I think its a first year Model 2 with the deluxe (walnut+checkered) 'Trainer', a.k.a. 'Fatty' stock. I believe those stocks were only on the first year or 2 of the Model 2's...1956 or 1957.
