High folks, please list what your M4-22 likes and dislikes From personal experience. Also a few comments would be helpful.

likes
‘Elley Force‘ superb reliability, clean fast, accurate.
‘CCI Subsonic‘ excellent reliability, subsonic.

dislikes
‘Gecco Semi-auto’ few fail to feeds, average accuracy. Strangely my CZ512 love this ammo the best!
‘Elley Subsonic’ not enough charge to recycle action.

Im going to try some different brands next week and will update.

cheers
James.

I've gotten the best results so far (accuracy, and reliability), with: Wolf Target, CCI mini mags, and SK Standard Plus, with SK and Wolf being the best for precision and consistency. Terrible reliability with Winchester Wildcat, in that, it was old ammo. Middling results with Federal Automatch and Champion, they're ok but more FTF's and fliers than I'd prefer.

Sounds like I should try a couple of other CCI loads: SV and AR Tactical.
Good morning everyone
I'm looking for some input about HV ammo.I have the Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 with the HV reticle that is etched out to 200yds.I really want to stretch it out. Any advise regarding accurate HV ammo will be appreciated (help me save $$$).
Thank you...Ken
Avoid any ammo with Winchester in the name. It will not run in a Tippmann (or anything else I have.)

I have now ran five different ammo types through my Tippmann. I am not the most skilled plinker around so my groups are not super tight, but I am consistently not tight so it is comparable. The groups I will list are at 25 yards, sitting at a bench supporting the gun with my arms.
1. Federal Range Pack 40 Grain 1200fps. No issues (since putting the Tippmann hammer spring on my LaRue trigger), 25yards 20 rounds .75" group with 1-2 1" fliers. 800 rounds total
2. Remington Thunderbolt 40 Grain 1255fps. No real issues but the bolt has some inconsistent cycling "feel" to it, 25yards 20 rounds .75" group with 5-8 1.5" fliers. 1000 rounds total
3. CCI AR Tactical 40 Grain 1200fps. No issues, 25yards 20 rounds 5/8" group with 1-2 .5" fliers. 900 rounds total
4. CCI Standard Velocity 40 Grain 1070fps. No issues, 25yards 20 rounds 5/8' groups, no noticeable fliers. 250 rounds total
5. Federal AutoMatch 40 Grain 1200fps. Not my favorite, I have had one fail to feed and some unpredictable fliers, 25yards 20 rounds .75" group with 5 1-2" fliers. 250 rounds total.

I have now ran four different ammo types through my Tippmann. I am not the most skilled plinker around so my groups are not super tight, but I am consistently not tight so it is comparable. The groups I will list are at 25 yards, sitting at a bench supporting the gun with my arms.

This is the CCI AR Tactical at 110 yards. That was 20 rounds with a 35+ mph gusting on and off cross wind from right to left. I was prone in the grass with a 1-6X at 6.

If you can do that with a 35mph cross wind then you don't need to test anymore ammo!! I would like to see the group in better conditions just to see it.

The CCI AR tactical has been super consistent, I really like it! I am also SUPER happy with the M4-22. The gun is so consistent, way better than I was expecting when I bought it. I meet dad at the outdoor range 1 Sunday per month, hopefully next month we won't have any wind.

Updated results on my newish M4-22 Elite (purchased July 2022) from what I posted earlier in thread. It turned out that I had an increasing number of failures to fire, and this kept getting worse over time regardless of ammo brand. Returned it to Tippmann, Greg figured out that the fluted Elite barrel had a sharp edge around the chamber mouth that would cause the rounds to occasionally fail to fire. Apparently this was a known issue with some of the fluted M4-22 Elites. He replaced the barrel, now all standard ammo types I use work great without failures.

What's all good:
  • CCI SV
  • CCI Mini Mag
  • Wolf Match
  • SK Standard+
  • Federal Automatch
  • Federal Champion

What fails: CCI Velocitors. I get failures to lock back on an empty mag (every time), and at least 1 or 2 failures to feed per 25rd mag. Obviously the Velocitors are causing some kind of cycling issue with the operating system that affects the reliability. Curious to hear if others have seen this with Velocitors. Tag @ResilientArms for comment on Velocitors.

I've tried 6 different ammo types in my new M4-22 Elite. So far my best results have been from CCI AR Tactical. I'm getting 1/2" groups or better at 50 yards when I do my part. Also it seems to have very few fliers compared to other ammo. CCI standard velocity is my go to .22LR ammo but the Tippman doesn't really seem to like it as much. It cycles them just fine but the groups aren't as tight like I've come to expect from my other .22s. Federal Automatch occasionally produces sub MOA groups but the frequent fliers ruin most of them. Aguila Super Extra 40gn RN was very comparable to the Federal Automatch and the Aguila 38gn HP was maybe a bit better. But I only had a box of fifty of the Aguila .38gn so no extensive testing. I'm not a fan of CCI Mini Mags in my other .22s as it groups awful. But the Tippmann shoots the Mini Mags better than any of my other .22s. Still not as good as the AR tactical. I'd say the Mini Mags are typically 1.5 -2.5 MOA out of the Tippman. All of the above were shot at 50yards. I have not shot for groups beyond 50 yards yet. All of the ammo cycled reliably. All of the above are from yesterdays range trip. I shot 300 rnds total of the above listed ammo. I had one rnd that didn't fire. I reloaded it and it did fire on the 2nd try. I also had one jam feeding a round. So 2 hiccups out of 300 rnds seems pretty good to me for semi-auto .22LR. I didn't take note of which brands had the two failures. After shooting 225 rnds for groups the rifle, as expected, was pretty grungy. I then shot three 25rnd mags of Aguila 40gn as fast as I could pull the trigger. The Tippman fired them all without issue. I am very happy with my new Tippmann M4-22.

I’ve been using federal auto match with no problems. If I use a red dot and I have a sighting at 25 yards.
