Crossfire, may I suggest that you install the VQ bedding kit, shoot your rifle a while and see how you like the results. I have used them with excellent results (1/2" average size groups @ 50 yds using Wolf MT ammo).
MKnarr has written an excellent post on bedding the 10/22, and his method utilizes the VQ bedding pillar so you have nothing to loose if you later desire to do a complete bedding job. You will already have the VQ bedding pillar installed which is the first step of his procedure anyway.
The kit includes a drill bit with a stop welded to it, or you can buy a refill kit without the drill if you want to save a few bucks. Hawktech Arms is a good place to get either. Here is a link. Just scroll down the page until you see it. http://www.hawktecharms.com/ruger/10-22.htm
