Not much to say about this one. One of my favorite pieces in my collection. 1943 Mosin Nagant PU. Refurbed- post WW2. My understanding is that the Soviets would conduct accuracy tests on rifles coming off the factory line and hand-select Mosins for the PU scope setup based on accuracy performance. Maybe someone else can expand on that but that's just what I've heard.

Did some work on my M-44 that resulted in it becoming very accurate when shooting my hand loads. Wish I could see the sights better, but still able to put five in a single 1/2" hole @ 50 yards most days. At 100 yards groups open up to about 2-1/2", but I can barely make out the bullseye at that distance and figure my eyesight is to blame more than the rifle.
One day, I hope to add one like yours to my small collection of milsurps.

Here's my 1945 M44 with a 2X7X scout scope. Loves the old surplus Russian ball ammo. Target shows last 8 shots after sighting the scope at 100 yards.

I forget. It isn’t so without pics. She isn’t pretty but she sure is accurate, and LOUD. Actual M38 stock, no bayonet slot on side. And brass escutcheon. Did away with them to save time. This is a great site 7.62x54r.net

Very very nice piece. Always hard to find in an original M38 stock. I think a lot don't even realize their M38s are in an M44 stock.

I'm glad to see y'all are getting some very respectable groups out of your Mosins.
I had a M44, 3 Tula hex 91/30s, and 3 Finnish M39s. The M39s were good shooters, but not as good as groups posted here. My friend has a PU sniper refurb that is similar to the one above. We couldn't get the scope to settle in, or it hates surplus ammo. There was a separate sniper round that maybe he needs, but I can't recall what that was called at this moment. Probably doesn't matter because there aren't any to buy.
I sold all of my Mosin rifles because I went through a transitional time in my life. Should have kept them because they bring a pretty penny now.
The one I really should have kept was the M39 B with the plumb colored barrel in like new condition. I may have been the first person to shoot that rifle.
Oh well, water under the bridge now.
It's a pleasure seeing the positive results here.

My M44 Mosin is the only one that shoots well. It looked absolutely new when I got it and the bore was pristine. Not the case with the 2 Mosin 91/30s that I bought prior to that. Both looked beautiful on the outside but the bore were shot out. I tried everything to get them to shoot well and nothing worked. Both shot minute of barn door at 50 yards no matter what I fired whether surplus ammo or high quality component reloads. I still have both since I wouldn't wish them on anyone else! They do make nice wall hangers

Installing brass shims in the stock to insure a solid and tight receiver fit along with self-adhesive cork strips run the length of the barrel channel to tightly grip the barrel tamed the barrel harmonics on my M-44. Went from shooting patterns to decent groups. Slugs @ .314" and shoots great groups using .312" FMJ pills.
A little work can yield good results on many of them.
