I returned my S&W 647 2 weeks ago for repair. The gun would spray patterns all over the target when it would get hot after about 25 rounds through it. I received a phone call from S&W and they told me the gun was discontinued from their production line. Only a few parts remained in stock to repair it and they offered me another revolver to replace it. The model 648 is the replacement I chose in a .22 mag. They are shipping the 648 to my local gun dealer for me to pick it up in the next week. The customer rep told me they did not have a high enough demand for the 647 so they dropped it form their production line. So, for all those out there with the 647, hang on to your guns in hopes no major malfunctions may happen.

results of the smith 648

I placed a Leopald red dot on the smith 648 and was using CCI .22 mag shells.
At 25 yards I hit about 1/2" groups using a gun rest. Not too bad. I fired nearly 65 rounds through it and had the same results with no malfunctions and any mechanical problems. When I get the chance to fire it at 50 yards, I will let you know how it goes.
